Is Dana stacking 299 to counter program Ngannou's next fight?

You're literally in a thread wondering if Dana's trying to outperform the Francis / AJ card with his own 299 card.

So how many people tune in to watch the two cards is uh, kinda the entire issue...?
No, that's incorrect. I pointed out 299 was already stacked before the Francis AJ announcement so they couldn't be competing with it. How did you gather otherwise?

The Saudi's are putting on these big boxing fights for their own interest and purposes, not to sell ppv's. They can afford to host these fights, invite a few of their friends to come watch, and not give a fuck about how many people buy the card. If they wanted to maximize PPV sales, they probably would have marketed the card better and/or held the fight sometime other than Noon in the US.

Funny because I don’t recall Fury Ngannou selling all that well. He got paid but Dana was kinda correct too. Not to mention the article stating Frank doesn’t think he’s finna fight this year in mma

And yet…he has another high level boxing match…. Can’t wait for the …’well, it’s Saudi money…’ argument. Like Ngannou or Dana cares…it’s good, healthy competition.

Surprised Dana have not announced Power Slap 7 for the weekend as well.

Maybe save best for last idk. We will see.

Actually, people have it all wrong. It's actually the opposite.

Dana, the UFC, is banking on boxing people talking about MMA because of Ngannou. Having a card on the same weekend may tempt boxing people on checking it out. He's not looking to hurt Ngannou, he wants to cash on it.

I think it's a good strategy on the UFC's part.

My 2 cents.

It's not even going to conflict. Those Saudi Boxing cards are on in the afternoon (EST) end way before the UFC prelims even start.

It was already stacked long before Francis' fight was announced.

Francis' fight is in Saudi Arabia so will be in the afternoon, not evening.

Francis' last boxing PPV did dogshit numbers, and he was never some big MMA draw either.

But enjoy your conspiracy theories.

Those fights would have been made regardless, however yes I believe Dana announced many fights at the same time too try and take the attention of Francis. Dana is absoutley fuming and he is so salty and holds a grudge forever, he won't let go of it. His ego has taken a knock on this one.

Nothing can outshine Ngannou vs Joshua after that performance against Tyson Fury.

God, I'm glad I can't see Markg171's posts anymore, every thread I enter numerous people are arguing with the guy, holy shit.

It was already stacked before he added Poirier/St Denis. The UFC do like to counter program, but they didn't really have to here, and didn't have a card at all for Fury/Ngannou, and that event still flopped. They might have tossed Poirier/BSD on that card instead of a different card for good measure, but they're already set as the event most fans will be watching that day.

It's not even airing at the same time. The fight should be over by the time the UFC prelims start.
I doubt a lot of people are going to spend $160 and their entire day buying both. The Francis/AJ fight might get a decent number of people streaming the main event after the undercard and 7 hour rap concert are over, then watching the whole UFC card in the evening.

You do realize PPV buys count the amount of people who bought, AKA watched, the fight right? Not the money generated? 1 buy = at least 1 person.

The price per buy and therefore how much was generated in revenue by it is a completely separate thing. This thread is about people *watching* the events.

So yes, having the higher buy rate would be beating them.
You think Francis gives two shits about the UFC getting more views or "counter programming" his fight, his bag doesn't change at all.

It’s great for Big Frank though sucks for mma fans hence my dislike of the dude. I find him disingenuous and could always saw his pants were on fire. He doesn’t “own” the UFC though. Him fighting in and making the PFL more successful than Dana’s org would be owning them. This is just him proving he’s a lying greedy ass capitalist like the rest of us and rightfully so but all that fighting the good fight for the average mma fighter malarkey was a load of shit. He’s no better than Dana or Conor and all the smiling pics of him put on mma websites by hacks who couldn’t get a better writing gig (“journalists”) isn’t going to change my mind.

Yeh, I don't really disagree. People go on like Frank is fighting for everyone, but he's really just fighting for himself, like all of them.

This is why competition is good, actually. The UFC needs some fighters that push back on their cheap bullshit. It’s good for the fighters as a whole. Now, Dana needs to get a fight for Aspinall. Then all the divisions will be working
I'm all for competition but these boxing events don't stand on their own two legs and wouldn't exist if not for some Saudi prince treating ngannou like his make a wish kid. These events just exist on the whims of a rich dude and draw in dogshit PPV sales. A real org that can compete without buckets of handouts would be nice

Oh I agree, but… it’s all we got. C’mon @nostradumbass .. keep shilling. Frank is not a draw….. neither was GGG, neither was Crawford. …. But they still need/deserve showcasing. They are or were, the best at times.

If UFC 299 was already scheduled, and Francis vs Joshua was scheduled for the same day, then the promoter of that fight, presumably Eddie Hearn, is a fucking idiot.

UFC tends to post their schedule pretty fucking far ahead of time. With a little bit of research, it is well within the realm of possibilities to find a weekend where there is no #PPV event, if not no UFC event at all. BKFC was able to do so with their big Mike Perry vs Eddie Alvarez fight, and they had Conor at the Mike Perry vs Luke Rockhold fight, so presumably there was no big UFC that night either.

"Never interrupt your enemy when they are making a mistake."

If they were dumb enough to schedule their even against 299, they deserve to have Dana cross promote hard. That is some next level dumb shit. It is probably different time due to time zones, but as far as the "I have money to splurge on paying for one event" demographic, UFC will clean that up and Ngannou will get streamed... again.

Francis is in Dana's head. I just love to see it

You understand that Francis popularity came from the UFC right? Like you do realize that you first heard of him after watching him in the UFC just like the rest of us? Therefore he basically represents the UFC as that's where the majority of his career has been. Him doing good in boxing makes all other UFC Heavyweights look good and it just rises UFC's stock.

Dana is chilling.
