Not sure how to answer this accurately because it was so long ago. What you consider a reliable source from them..?


In any event, people who have studied past civilizations (such as Rome) have put out there what they know according to various sources and in that particular topic (among other things they did in the coliseum and for games and spectacles) Tigers were almost always victorious.


I don’t have any current stuff saved anymore as these threads have been done to fucking death in here but I’ve posted plenty in the past for documented encounters between the two and opinions from experts in animal studies and so on.. bottom line is, you read enough about it Tigers are not to be fucked with. In Asia they hunt and kill everything from Black Bears, To Rhinos, and even Elephants -and they do this stuff on their own, and much of this is documented.


And that’s not even mentioning what their larger Siberian cousins do Russia.


Even if you just go by the tale of the tape the Tiger is more impressive:


Average African male Lion weighs around 400-500 pounds


Average male Siberian is around 650


Tigers also have a larger brain even tho their skulls are similar size wise.


Siberian’s have the more powerful bite force.


Siberian’s have a paw swipe measured at the same force as a full grown Grizzly (which they can also do from a standing position which Lions struggle with do to weaker hind legs)..


Tigers are more ‘athletic’ and more compact/muscular than Lions on average too

If a number of packs of wolves[largest variety] were introduced into various African countries do you think they'd survive successfully?
For the sake of the argument we'll have to assume that they'll be ok with living with hot weather at certain times of each year.

What animals would end up as their prey?
Would they be more suited to the open plains or a more wooded area?
Which animals would prey upon them?

I could see a pack of wolves running down lone hyenas and killing them. I know forum members love hyenas[as do i] and usually can't say enough great things about them but i don't think they'd be a match for wolf.
Yes hyenas have a powerful bite-force but they're not as agile as a wolf or as fast. Also when hyenas are challenged by other animals they tend to just roll on their back and not fight.

You are severely underestimating wolves.

I've seen packs of hyenas punk lions off. Lions are by far the softest of the large predators and wolves compete with bull Elks and grizzlies (aka something tougher and scarier than a lion) all the time.

Big enough wolf pack > Lion

Heat and drought > cold weather adapted northern hemisphere canines.

Coyotes would do better in Africa than wolves.

Yeah. Wolves introduced into the African wild might just end up evolving into herbivores. The competition there is stiff.

Wild dogs are extremely intelligent and I'd probably so than wolves. They are also definitely better hunters than wolves, and that is just a fact.


Watch this video, they are extremely social and will regurgitate food for the sick and old members in their pack. They hardly show aggression to each other, where as wolves will fight among each other. When it comes to pack vs pack, attributes like this makes me want to sway in favor for the wild dogs.

I'd put money on a pack Canadian Gray Wolves vs a pack of African wild dogs.
