Firstly, preemptively worrying about what a fighter not fighting in the event is going to tweet post fight is funny to me. Especially considering if Gane loses then Tom fans will absolutely use it as fodder against Jones so why shouldn’t the opposite be true? If Gane beats Tom then it just fuels what Jon has said all along that there is always going to be “another guy with another fanbase that fans will say he needs to defeat to be the best” he’s gone through generations of that (and “fans” diminish accomplishments post fight everytime the new darling loses to someone they don’t like) and if he wants to sit back retired it’s his right to do so. Shit if he wants to come back for an easier matchup with bigger upside against Alex for example at the White House for a huge bag again that’s his prerogative. He has proven to be the best for 15 consecutive years. Deal with it he can do what he wants at this point.

The idea here on Sherdog that being a Jones fan is a bad thing is mind boggling to me. The guy has won at the highest level the most consistently in UFC history through literal generations of the best in the world. Me not being blind to in cage facts doesn’t make me anything but logical and mentally sound. Also if you ask fighters at the highest level who the GOAT is the overwhelming majority will say Jon…love him or hate him it’s the truth.

As a Jones fan, if Gane wins by actually beating Aspinall through superior skill for a night (e.g., no DQ, no non-contact injury TKO, no egregious steal by the judges, no getting lucky and managing the one-shot KO off a ridiculous mistake by Aspinall), mostly I'll just be sad about the state of the HW division.

I’ve seen multiple people on here post things to the effect of “it’s impossible to dislike Aspinall,” “he has never done anything in his career to warrant criticism,” or “if you have anything negative to say about him, you’re just hating.” The level of fanboyism is crazy. He’s the only fighter that’s like that right now.

I've never seen anything like the level it got with Khabib, it honestly became borderline romantic for many of the fanboys on here. Mods would even censor threads that were viewed as being negative toward Khabib, it was disgusting.

I once posted a thread of fellow UFC fighter Jimmy Rivera telling a personal negative story about Khabib and how he shunned a child fan at Rivera's gym. The Khabib fans all attacked me as if I personally committed sacrilege and wouldn't acknowledge that a UFC fighter made the comments, not me. A mod wound up deleting the thread.

I also made a similar thread of Khabib's training partner Shawn Bunch stating how Khabib isn't very good in straight wrestling, and that Khabib can't take him down in training despite Bunch fighting at 135. They also sucked off Khabib for outwrestling a high school kid and then seethed when I posted Shawn Bunch beating the same kid much easier and faster. They simply couldn't accept the reality of it and went back to their fantastical stories of Khabib hanging with DC and shit.

But yeah the Aspinall cult is the next coming of this phenomenon.

It is quite relevant. You would be hard pressed to find videos of fighters in the elite category of Jon Jones getting bullied like against Austin and bitch tossed like against Ricky King by MUCH smaller fighters on the regional circuit, due to their sheer physicality compared to their opponents.

Let's think of all the recent heavyweight champs: Jones, Stipe, Werdum, Cain, JDS, Brock. None of them have moments like that no matter how far back you go.
