Social ICE/deportation protests and riots megathread

Okay, can you see that in that post I specifically said that my gripe is with people who pretend to be moderate, not people who are actually moderate. You understand that distinction right?

Now you can argue that I'm unfair in my designation of who is and isn't moderate but it's not fair to say that I'm self-consciously anti-moderate like you were implying.
I'm not certain how you can make this designation without a full scope of a persons views but I suppose there is a clear distinction there.
Again you guys are conflating centrists and moderates. If you read through those posts my critique is of people who call themselves centrist to portray themselves as above the fray when they're often clueless.

But that doesn't mean I'm against moderating political coalitions, I just think people with firm principles are better allies which means I'll take a moderate center-right ally who has principled disagreements with me over a clueless centrist who reflexively disagrees with both sides because they think that's what they're supposed to do.
Ehhh I guess. There are definitely right wingers and left wingers who reflexively disagree regardless and this isn't exclusive to centrists but point taken. Do you feel the same about those who lack a nuanced view within your own party? Do you ever call them out?

Most of those people, when I press them to prove their point as I did to you, end up ignoring me or embarrassing themselves. It is annoying when you guys spread these misrepresentations but if not this it'd be something else. Someone ITT accused me of being a socialist for example.
This is fair enough, and I'll apologize sincerely this time. It was wrong of me to take snippets out of context in a hastily manner.

Everyone I served with thinks military parades are gay.

For those like you, who didn't serve, could you tell us why you think they're cool?
You're free to feel that way. I think they're cool because I'm thankful as hell they dedicated their lives to defending this country that's been very good to me. I'll never have a problem with military, police, or first responders being recognized for what they do. You and your friends are free to not go and not watch. I have several close friends and 2 family members who are excited for it.

@KAZSoliloquy @deviake @Islam Imamate

Ask these posters how they feel about moderates.
in what way? there are a lot of different kinds of moderates, some of whom are undesirables, but most are just people who don't pay attention to politics and love to play the "both sides" card because they've been told "both sides" are just extremists who hold indefensible positions. for the record, Islam is largely a moderate. he leans left on a lot of social issues like most democrats but overall, he's quite moderate.

deviake and i, yeah, we're leftists.

Why would I care what they think about moderates? There is no way you are trying to suggest Democrats as a whole are telling moderates to go fuck themselves because of 3 posters on sherdog? I'm asking you to show me prominent political figures in the Democratic party telling moderates to go fuck themselves, I'm guessing you can't do that?
@deviake and i aren't even democrats <lmao>

When we follow the $ for these protests... those that want them to happen are:
  • China
  • Drug Cartels
  • Left Wing NGOs

It is those forces that are paying for the riots. That is who the Democrats are aligning with.

No 2ndA in commiefornia?

You can thank your republican buddy Ronald Reagan for that.

And Clinton, biden, and current leaders that now anything over nine rounds is a crime. Companies have to make special magazines to sell to cali which is ridiculous. Imagine having a 9mm or AR with 9 rounds when they normally hold 17. Eventually it will get struck down by the scotus imo

Could you elaborate on how you're not a moderate, but a leftist, but also not a Democrat? That's a tad bit confusing.
99% of democrats are moderates. they love capitalism and live in gated communities, calling the cops on black people for daring to walk their dogs in their neighborhood. for every AOC, there's 100 joe biden's. if you're an american, you've been led to believe democrats are lefties because they believe in shit like civil rights and women's right to have abortions. however they support capitalism and western imperalism so on most issues, they lean right as those are right-wing ideologies.

i've voted democrat more often than not, and my politics have changed since i voted in my first election, but i would never call myself a democrat.

I'm thankful too. A handshake or buy them a beer is appreciation enough for most.

The parade is just a waste of money.

I appreciate the honest response.

But are you not genuinely worried about the partisan nature of the event? One of the big things they drilled into us, is that we have a sworn duty to not engage in politics. That was taken seriously. If you so much as wore a shirt with a candidates name on it, you're getting stopped by the first person who saw you and get your ass handed to you.

With that being said, isn't it kinda hard to ignore the partisan optics of this? We just had the current president on stage yesterday, in front of a crowd of "soldiers," shit talking the former president. Now he wants to hold a military parade on his birthday, bragging that he'll crush any protestors who ruin his day. And we're supposed to believe this is just a totally neutral thank you to the Armed Forces in general?

I'm just saying, if you really wanted to thank the people that served, I think you could start with rehiring all the people at the VA who got fired for no reason. You could literally do that with just the money saved from this parade. More veterans will be thankful for America fulfilling it's oath, than a tacky dog-and-pony show that trump think will make him look more like Putin.

That's a whole lot to unpack and I'm unsure on how to address all of it because it's sort of contradictory.

I will say though I think geography and where a person lives with their own lived experiences is heavily impacting how they view the rest of the country and what those persons views are.

Our military is the biggest example of a mixing pot. you got dorky white kids ending up buddies with black guys from the hood, blue collar Latinos, hill billy types, it’s wild.

Modern democrats would consider 88 democrats far right.
And how would modern republicans feel about 1993 Republicans, who were part of RBG’s 96-3 confirmation vote?

Point is, you’d like to believe that we would steal SCOTUS picks and obstruct and refuse to have confirmation hearings like you did to us, but that has never happened in our history.

To be fair Democrats removed the filibuster for federal judicial nominations first which the GOP then extended to SCOTUS nominations.
This is a good example of exactly the differences between us and them.
Republicans simply refused to consider any of Obama’s appointees, literally for years, simply so they could steal all those picks for themselves and stack the courts. We had more filibusters on federal judicial nominees in o Obama’s 8 years than we’d had in our entire nation’s history up to that point. We finally had enough of that shit and went nuclear to get the vacancies filled that should have been filled months and years prior but weren’t because Republicans wouldn’t do their job. We left SCOTUS untouched.

When Republicans went nuclear, they went nuclear on SCOTUS precisely so they could steal a Supreme Court pick that was rightly ours, because apparently they weren’t satisfied with how much thievery they had committed already.

american politics all exist on a right-wing baseline. this country values capital/property and the rich over laborers and the poor. that's a right-wing baseline. it's not exclusive to the US either, france and the UK are quite similar.
I will say though I think geography and where a person lives with their own lived experiences is heavily impacting how they view the rest of the country and what those persons views are.
for sure. living in america gives people a skewed perspective on world politics and what left & right are.

I'm not certain how you can make this designation without a full scope of a persons views but I suppose there is a clear distinction there.
If I accuse someone in particular of that I try to back it up with references to their posts but in a lot of those threads I was speaking generally.
Ehhh I guess. There are definitely right wingers and left wingers who reflexively disagree regardless and this isn't exclusive to centrists but point taken.
No one denies that but the type of centrist I'm talking about assumes that because they're taking a centrist stance they must be correct. Sometimes though one side is right and one side is wrong. In Venezuela you can't say "both sides are equally bad" when the left over there are socialists who drove the country into the ground while the right wing opposition are merely liberals who don't want everything nationalized.
Do you feel the same about those who lack a nuanced view within your own party? Do you ever call them out?
Yes and not only do I do so, I have in fact I've disagreed with both of the posters you originally tagged me with, deviake and KAZSoliloquy, in the same thread. Can you see from my POV how the fact that you lumped me in with two leftists who I've had vehement disagreements with might suggest that your impression of me is off base?

Wow, out of the arrests of LA protestors, over 300 were illegals and 1/3 of them had criminal histories. Unfortunately for them, they won’t receive the incentives with this method of self-deportation. How dumb of them lol

The media trying so hard to prop up the democrats here, but there are too many voices that are trusted more than the mainstream media speaking out against their gaslighting. Jillian Michaels a fitness guru, lesbian, disillusioned liberal, but even someone like her has had enough. You love to see it
