I get the impression UFC are not going to play ball with Jon unless he fights Aspinall, strong arm tactics

Forget everything else and just ask yourself this - since when was there two champs? Is there ever a valid excuse to hold a belt you refuse to unify?

It’s not about anything other than that. Jon has duties to fulfill if he wants to hold a belt. If he refuses, strip him. He’s lucky he got a gimme fight against a corpse for his Wikipedia page but it’s time to shit or get off the pot.

Nobody would fault Jon if he vacated and took the fun fights. Hell, I’d love to see him fight Jamahal Hill or someone else. But this mess at HW needs to be fixed immediately . It should have never gone on this long.

Jon is used to beating smaller guys so when he sees Tom, he puts himself in the other guys shoe. He knows what Tom is thinking and he knows he loses the size advantage that is a big factor in the success of his techniques. Reyes fought like a bitch in the championship rounds and Jon knows that. Tom doesn't need 5 rounds to win.

An elephant in the room type question is when does Jon plan to retire? How many more fights period?

Tom can't go 5 rounds

Honestly UFC seems pretty confident they locked this fight down with Aspinall. I assume if Jones beats Aspinall that Pereira (if still unbeaten) would be next because there aren't many names left.

The tier below Aspinall is Pavlovich, Gane, Blaydes, Almeida, Volkov. I think Jones would destroy all those guys. After Aspinall if Jones feels up to it he could set HW defense record.

If we are talking sporting legitimacy then Aspinal is exactly who Jones should fight. I'm not going to begrudge Jones the desire to do a money fight with Alex. I'm sure in his mind it's the biggest payday available. But like it or not Aspinal is the interim champ/number one contender and actually officially a member of the HW division. That's not to dump on or delegitimize Alex at all, but he's just now jumping up to HW.

Alex vs. Jon is a one-off and the result is predictable, it's a dumb fight the UFC want to legitimize the HW division not kill off Pereira one of their only stars. They're not interested.

Jon has a decent shot at beating Tom but his pitiful "I'm not going to fight him because I don't like him" excuse is killing his aura every day. Where was that energy for Cormier? lol

If he's trying to get paid really high by UFC standards that's one thing, but he can't go asking for 50 million and honestly expect the UFC to make him that deal it would be a clear duck.

jon wants to go with his 0 intact without the embarrassment of ducking aspinall. you don't have to fight him, just relinquish the belt. simple.

It will always look like he ducked Aspinall if he doesn't fight him. This has drawn a lot attention for well over a year at this point.

Is Jon going to unify the title or duck? This is the question that is being asked all over the MMA sphere by fans and pundits alike.

Jones has the upper hand. He made enough to retire or at least sit out. It's up to the UFC if this is going to happen or not.

Honestly it's hard to say these days cause Hunter Campbell and Dana White don't care about carefully walking the legitimacy line anymore. They'll make a fight happen if a quick buck can be made.

Both Alex and Jon Jones are turning 38 next year and Jon is one foot out the door. Wouldn't surprise me if they make this fight happen to keep Jon producing. At the end of the day Aspinall isn't a big enough draw which is why they are treating him like a 2nd class champion.

bro imagine if a middle aged man still doesnt figure what jones is doing
look at all his post in his social media
its pretty obvious hes all triggering people

the way i see it jones is playing all of them
making them interact more trying to sell the fight even more
equals more money

a true duck like gsp will duck any conversation like anderson wants to fight him in a catchweight lmfao
i remember back then gsp was petrified of even hearing the word anderson
the dude doesnt wanna comment anything to sell it

gsp be like eh eh eh eh

I don't get Dana White's promotion angle on all of this. For a so called great promoter he has done one of the worst jobs ive ever seen for this fight.

He should be kind of baiting Jones in taking the fight and not scream to the whole universe all the time Jones doesnt need to prove anything and will stay the GOAT forever anyway.

Jones is clearly driven by ego (and money). Dana could very well imply that he needs this fight to cement his legacy and if he doesnt fight Tom people will always say he was a duck and ran away from tough competition.

lol no it's not. Not even close. That's why UFC want Jon to fight Aspinall and Dana said no to Pereira.

Assuming the Pereira fight would be bigger because he's a bigger star than Tom is low iq. People want to see Jon and Tom fight because Tom is the first guy favoured to beat him. People want to see Jon lose or at least be in danger of losing.

Your levels of delusion as to how much the UFC needs Jones vs needs Aspinall are part of what causes you to type these things. Your belief that no Jones in this equation fixes the “problem” at HW which btw is the division blows. You have no clue how money or business or ticket sales work. No concept the UFC HW division looks second rate without Jones. All you see is the ranking and continue on a ducking narrative when to this day NO ACTUAL FIGHT OFFER OCCURRED. You’re just either not very smart or not very smart on the situation

The answer is obvious that he’s not in a rush nor the UFC to make the fight and the answer is obvious why unless you have completely underestimated the star power of Jones and they NEED him right now, It honestly gets sad watching sherdog so lost on the situation but you kind of deserve it. They trashed Jones so long you lose track of the fact he’s a superstar now

You had me going until the this mess at HW needs to be fixed immediately. HW is the fucking mess. Imagine blaming Jones not fighting Aspinall being the reason Aspinall never put asses in seats or Black Beast being your biggest star. Imagine blaming Jones for the fact Curtis Blaydes would be headlining PPVs selling triple wood. OK buddy they have to sort out this mess RIGHT NOW. HAHAHAHAH. Good luck

It doesn’t matter if Aspinall is a draw. That’s a retarded reason. All that matters is the belts get unified and we have a champion again. That’s exactly the division is a mess.

If Jon wins, we have a legendary champ who just proved he’s the deal deal and we can make some fun fights. It would be the best win of his career by far too.

If tom wins, we also have finally a legit champ and can get the division rolling again and he’s 31 so he can chase some records and finally end this stupid stalemate. This fight has to happen and there’s no valid excuses as to why it shouldn’t unless Jon vacates. Google the interim belt definition and then learn some history. This is totally uncharted waters because anyone else would have been stripped long ago.

I'm gonna need to see some receipts for that one Sir Lancelot, I'm sure Jon loves White Knights like you defending what looks like a clear duck online though.
