Has Illia surpassed Poatan as “the guy”

LMAO, before Poatan lost everyone was saying hes the fighter of the year, the best striker the UFC has ever seen , Dana to put him as P4P if he beat Ank. What happened? Casuals.

Show me where I ever said that. Great fighter, but you're putting others' words into my mouth.

I thought he is starting to slow down in his last 2 - the fight against Rountree he didn't look that special, and obviously struggled against Ank.

It's not disrespect. He is still one of the best in the division and obviously very talented.. I won't apologize for saying I think Ilia at this point is beyond him, though.

Wasn't saying it was you, i said in general.

I don't think anyone has ever suggested Poatan is a more complete MMA fighter than Ilia. At least not in the last year or two. An argument can be made Poatan is a better striker for sure.

The thread is disingenuous anyway. Thread starter hates Poatan lol

Hmmm.. good question. Hard to say if Top has surpassed Alex. The easier conclusion is Top has surpassed ex champs like Izzy and Usman.

I'm not interested anymore, he's not even in a weight division anymore.

It will depend, if Paddy can get the belt he'll be the guy for sure. But yeah right now Topuria will do, he proves you can be a smart and technical fighter and also exciting to watch, it's not a pub brawl.

If Paddy can get the belt? IF PADDY CAN GET THE BELT. Let that sink in for a minute. Paddy is good enough to beat Islam now I suppose. This is the guy who almost lost to Jared Gordon, and all of his best wins are over shot fighters in the 37-40 years old range. But let's talk about him doing something much better fighters couldn't do in the last few years.

Imo Topuria was "the guy" at featherweight, now he's gone from "the guy" to "the guy who's gonna get subbed by Islam"
