Dude... you need to. It's an amazing 6 part series of his Hardcore History Podcast... each episode is around 4-5 hours each. Goes from how Japan went from Isolationist in the 1800's to World Power to the Bombs being dropped.

Carlin gives great inside on the weird dynamics of Japan's government at the time and insane relationships between the army, navy and the government on the homeland. Both Pre-war and during the war.

There were factions inside Japan's military that still wanted to keep fighting...even after the bombs were dropped.

Hating Jews has been a world wide hobby for a couple thousand years. Not isolated to the Middle East. Even in the US and most Western Countries.

It was like most of the Western World decided that hating Jews had gone too far with the Holocaust and pulled it back. There was plenty of Jew Hatred in the US pre-World War 2. And it was out in the open

The incident as it was recorded took place in Acre, which Israel had captured during counter offenses and it was under siege. While retreating they contaminated the water supply to deny it to approaching Arab League armies.

Driving someone from their land is not genocide, though. That is forced-diaspora.

There was a time many countries there were fairly modern before regressing a few hundred years. I have no doubt in part due to Western Countries (and Russia) fucking around there since oil became a thing.

Israeli forces were under siege from all sides and in were an incredible desperate situation. They contaminated the water as they retreated to slow down the armies chasing them who were trying to do actual genocide. This is something pretty commonly don'e in war, especially in that region.

This was not an attempt by Israel to wipe out the Palestinians by poisoning the wells or keep them from returning. They were at the time just trying to survive and they certainly didn't know if they'd ever return.

That is correct. Genocide unfortunately has a watered down term people like to shout out because it plays to the emotions of the masses who may not know much about politics, international relations, and war outside of WW2 happened and Hitler was bad and did genocide.

That being said, it's also a bit weird that some folks in essence take a stand that if something isn't genocide, it's ok to do, or not a big deal.

It's probably a large part of the divide between folks on this issue because some folks will frame all the violence from the Palestinian side as being "they started it" and violators of international law, whereas some folks on the other side and/or neutral observers might take a view of a context where Palestinians are victims of crimes against humanity (some over-the-top with the genocide claim, others more in line with human rights organizations around unfair imprisonment, persecution, apartheid) and violators of U.N. resolutions, thus would view violence more akin to violence the ANC committed in South Africa being horrible (burning people to death with gasoline in tires etc), but also aware of the blatant mistreatment of Blacks in the country. By the way, I could be wrong, but I think it wasn't until 2008 that Nelson Mandela was removed from terrorist watch lists.

I'm sure there is writings on the topic for sure.

The first major conflict with modern Islamic radicals was probably the French-Algerian war. Obviously the Israeli conflict predates it a bit as well.

I read a good book on the topic years ago, and have promoted it here to a few times in the past.

By the way, I need you to listen to tonight's CBC World at Six on CBC Radio and tell me they're all about glowing reports of Israel and only condemning Hamas. Cause I don't see it. And I haven't since the Oct. 7 attack. My view is that they have been entirely even handed, reporting on the perspective of both sides consistently.
