Because like 50+% of the most powerful country in the world is a human caused "climate change denier". Greta is a great voice. She's a kid that's more intelligent and ethical than them. People don't like getting sonned and shown that they're stupid, evil people by kids, and she does that to them easily.

So ethical that she travelled to America by a boat that needed a crew of at least five people to fly to America to take it back to Europe. If she had flown, that crew wouldn't have needed to fly overseas.

I guess optics are more important than actual ethics.

She's a powerful voice in America, even though she's a Swede, because us Americans are pathetic and stupid enough that a Swedish kid is more intelligent than most of us. I highly doubt that. She hasn't even receive the equivalent of Grade 8 education yet. The statements from her are clearly regurgitated and rehearsed. I am actually with the left on the issue of global warming. I think human activities centered around industrial production, resources extraction, transportation and electricity generation are a major contributing factor to climate change. I believe that we do need to cut back on the consumerism and find more sustainable ways to do business in the future. The need to reduce pollution and slow down rising sea level is actually quite urgent.

With that said, I really dislike using children to push an emotional narrative. The discussion should be fact based, not some outrage porn.

I don't even give a fuck about global warming -- I'm against most measures to combat it because I think they're unrealistic given current and near future technologies versus geography spread, and I also think they'll be made pointless by developments in AI -- but Go Greta! Yes man does have an effect on it, just how much and in what direction is up for debate by the real experts.

Yes pollution is bad and we should work to reduce it.

We're a massive land mass and a sparsely populated country in the US. We don't see the effect of mankind on the environment on a day-to-day basis and so lots of us pretend it doesn't even exist. People in the rest of the world don't get that luxury. Try pretending that humans aren't fucking the environment when you're hacking and coughing because of the fine dust particles you're breathing in and your kids are wheezing because of it.

The only debate is how much of the change is man made and how much is the climate cycle.

She's got Asperger's and they are usually about 3-4 years late developmentally so good call. Climate change debate already got too politicized by Gore and because of it finding factual information about it from scientists who are trained in the field and don't have an agenda is extremely difficult. The last thing we need is an over dramatic developmentally challenged kid thrown into the mix. A child shouldn't be considered an authority on anything.
