Well if anyone's saying Gane is terrible yeah they're dead wrong. I think what's happening is that Tom has a lot of hype, an amazing resume to back it up, and a lot of anger against Jon, which I share.

As far as Gane goes, I think the Jones loss is not bad at all-- it's unfortunate that we didn't get to see more standup, Jones is a monster on the ground. But I'd say the Ngannou loss was bad. He really should have won that fight, had the tools to do it, and I believe Ngannou had really bad knees at the time.

Hes a great striker on a technical level, the issue is he lacks power and has fairly weak grappling. Tom has serious KO power and is also a very aggressive and explosive grappler.

Not writing Gane off but stylistically this is a tough fight for him imo. I also think theres a good chance he would lose to some of the other guys Tom beat ie Blaydes and Pav, and we already saw him arguably lose to Volkov too.

I think it the Jones stans stopped trying to hide Gane’s glaring weaknesses, people wouldn't highlight them so strongly.

It's HW. One 250+ lb mother fucker always has a chance of destroying another. Shit, Tai almost had Gane out on his arse.

The last Volkov fight was 3 rounds, and he gassed hard af because he was forced to fight. He can probably dance around looking pretty for 10 rounds. If you pressure him, force him to grapple, hit him, he will gas and wilt.

I used to rate Gane very highly but I don't think his head is in the game like it used to be.

If Aspinall is having problems on the feet, there's nothing Gane can do to stop the takedown. Once it's on the ground, he has nothing to offer.

There are still serious questions around Aspinall's cardio and it wouldn't surprise me if it's pretty bad, but I think he finishes Gane within 2 rounds.

There arent serious questions. Questions maybe, but no reason to jump to the extreme fear and also no reason to believe it will be bad. It might be. But it shouldn't be the expectation.

You can speculate whether Aspinall would have been champion if those guys were still around. But with Gane you know he’s only champion because those guys aren’t around. Gane beating Aspinall would appear to be a weaker champion than Aspinall beating Gane would. And a weaker champion makes the division as a whole look weaker. The question mark is better than having a known negative answer.

Actually it does because if you actually take the time out to watch the fights you'll see that ngannou was knocking everyone out in minutes flat as well but gane bested him on the feet and stood up infront of him the entire fight.

Gane is the only person to beat Ngannou in a stand up fight. Everyone else who has had to stand up with him has been ko'd bar lewis.

You also can look at their common opponent. (Not as the only metric of course, but as one metric). Gane won a competitive but clear decision first time vs Volkov, then was gifted a robbery (while injured, yes). Aspinall knifed through Volkov. Took him down and subbed him inside a round.

Even forgetting about Jones as we all should, Gane ducked tom like the plague on the way up, lost to Volkov and was gifted a robbery decision and only gets this fight because Tom has destroyed all the guys who didn't duck him on his rise.

I like Gane too. Who doesn't like a guy who stylistically looks very good striking and moves unlike most HWs (Tom aside).

Gane shattered several bones in his left foot and was unable to put nearly full weight on it or kick with it for two-and-a-half rounds. That's what gassed him. Volkov applied no pressure at all, which is why so little happened in the second round that judges who didn't get a clear view of one backfist that Gane, somewhat impressively, was able to walk (hobble) through were able to very legitimately score the round for Gane.

Don't get me wrong: Gane has almost no chance against Aspinall, but reading anything into his second fight with Volkov beyond the fact that totally fucking up your foot makes it hard to fight is almost as absurd as claiming that Aspinall can't be that good because of his loss to Curtis Blaydes.
