does Umar lack heart or was it lack of experience?

Relatively speaking, of course. Islam proved that he can keep moving forward in the first Volk and the Dustin fight even if he is tired but Umar was visibly exhausted, couldn't maintain a good poker face and he looked defeated, especially in the championship rounds. He beat Cory in a five round fight but he was mostly dictating the whole thing and was never pressured like he was this time.
Or was it just a lack of experience, against the worst fucking guy possible in Merab?
I like Umar tho. I can see him becoming champion as he is young but curious to see, now that he lost his 0, whether he will get better like Islam did or will this sorta damage him moving forward.

Lack of experience and cardio

He fought the toughest guy on the planet, everyone is soft compared to Merab.

But I don't see most of the division being able to compete with Umar, the only interesting fight I see right now is Yan and perhaps O'Malley in the stand-up but Umar is too well rounded for him. O'Malley against Merab just has to land a flying knee or something otherwise he has about 3% chance of victory if not less.

Chito is tough enough to hang in there and test him but the overwhelming likelihood is Vera getting abused for 5 rounds just like he does against other elites in the division. Umar already beat Sandhagen.... prime Aldo is an amazing matchup for Umar hhr obviously he's way too old at this point....hopefully they just do the Yan fight right now.

He lacks originality and creativity. Hes so used to being the same thing over and over. Hes been brought up that way and its served him well in totale but hes got more growing to do. He should branch out more.

I think if his cardio held up he would have won the fight, but it didnt, and he didnt, and the credit goes to Merab who truly is a machine. As many have said it looks like the only way past merab is to go all out trying to put him away early.

neither heart or experience, but gas

they gonna rematch in the desert 1 year from now and that wont be a problem

No one can stand up to Merab's pace. If you can't completely outclass him, you're fucked.

Merab just broke him mentally and sonned him, thats it, that will take a fighters will to go the extra step he needs to win.

It was a great title fight. I picked Umar and early on he looked the part but Merabs cardio is just insane. He just wilted him in the rounds that mattered. Compare Umar to Omalleys performance and you see Umar is a fucking legit contender. He gave Merab all he could handle.

Cardio/experience, he was still trying until the end of the 5th, he simply was not able to keep up with his opponent´s pace, which is crazy btw, time for someone to start EPO accusations that way??

Umar is elite. He just needs to work on his cardio for a 5 rounder. I knew going into this fight that he may have cardio issues because you can see him breathing heavily as he speaks during his post fight interviews against previous opponents
Bro needs submissions though to actually win. What separates Islam and Khabib from other 2 bit wrestler were their submissions(as we saw on the same night) Umar can punch wrestle all he wants until he ran into a better punch wrestler.

It's experience. He didn't have any real challenges. He fought Cory but it wasn't a tough fight. He had to make an adjustment during that fight but he didn't have to dig deep.

He needs to spend more time with Islam me thinks. Islam was a safe, calculated fighter but now he's always hunting for a finish. I think Umar needs to become a serious submission threat on the ground to reach the next level.

I think with being in that spotlite he had an adrenaline dump. I'm sure when they fight again he will be ready. He was also winning round 5 until those takedowns late.
