Do you think Tom is a mentally weak person?

My brain seeing all the stupid shit being posted on Sherdog since Tom was fouled:

This is a weird situation.

- The dumbest voices are driving the bus.

- Any rational (wait for all the facts/only Tom knows how damaged his eye/vision is ) type of perspective is going to be overpowered by the shouting tards.

So what's left by default is a narrative that the victim of an illegal and arguably cheap tactic is being blamed for not allowing the perpetrator of the cheap shot to gain an advantage using an unpunished foul.

I think Tom trained for a fair fight, got a tough night at the office capped off with being booed for someone else's foul.

He may be a "front runner" or he may be capable of battling thru adversity and "digging deep" ... I'll wait to see how he handles a challenge that comes within the course of a fair fight.

Stupid people can't see past their own basic desires.
Risking his legacy, title and career financial trajectory by fighting a dangerous striker with inpaired vision would be a very stupid choice. Tom made the wise but unpopular choice. Tards can't see past their own temper tantrum of not getting a thing they wanted, so they are not capable of grasping that.

The reality is that it is nearly guaranteed that they will run it back in a rematch.
May the best man win, hopefully in decisive and devastating fashion and ideally in a fair fight without controversy.

No because he wouldn't have made it as far as he did if he were mentally weak.

How many championships has the TS won? Because he has some incredibly high standards which I don't think he has lived up to himself.

MMA fandom is actually laughable.

will larp on some warrior code and just bleed expectation of the gladiators they build their Saturdays around to watch, as if what they think is remotely relevant and criticise these men for their mental frailties within the ring/octagon.

all while they stuff their faces with some random fast food mania and of course...weed.

and no most of them have never stepped foot inside a dojo either that's the irony.

Even strong people can get poked in the eye.

The guy is being made a joke because of something someone else did to him. Which happened to be against the rules. How about a little hate for Gane instead of for Tom?
You would have a good point if Tom at least made any attempt to continue. He didnt even take the 5 min and just wanted out. All he did was piss Dana off.
I know. Because it takes so much to piss Dana off.

It takes more mental toughness to even get in there than probably 90% of the population has.
What? Competing in any full contact sport at a local amateur level makes one tougher than 90% of the population.

Competing in pro MMA at the highest level makes one tougher than 99.99% of the population.

Mentally weak? No. Smart? Yes. He refused to continue fighting after being fouled and poked in both eyes. More fighters should do the same thing in the future.

Why on earth should fighters keep fighting at a disadvantage, when their opponent didn't even have a point deducted? That foul against Aspinall should have been two points.
For once I agree with you. Bad losses in MMA can often be career changing, so why would one willingly fight a notoriously quick and tricky stricker with a compromised vision? To please the same meathead alcoholics who will laugh at him for not seeing the headkick coming?

In the real world, that NC will be forgotten in 3 months, and sherdog haters don‘t count for shit anyways.

Obviously not mentally weak, man is not only a UFC fighter but the HW Champ. Mentally weak is absurd.

However, I do think he did throw in the towel vs Ciryl as I don't think Tom was really feeling like himself last Saturday.
Why did you include HW champ as reason to not doubt his mental fortitude?

Tom was quite literally handed the belt without ever winning it, and then in his first ever title defence he screamed for a NC in a fight he was losing. Which you even admit he quit over. Where is the "HW champion mentality" that you brough up?

There's quite literally nothing to suggest Tom is mentally strong. Dude doesn't even win the chicken wing eating contests on his own YouTube channel.

Urijah Faber both broke his hands in a 5 rd fight and continued to fight with his elbows . Some people are warriors, others aren't. Tom is not.

Exactly. People are acting like just because you're a fighter, or have been handed a belt like Tom, that you must be tough. As though there hasn't been many clear examples of toughness ABOVE this.

Toughness is earned, not given.

Yeah. The judges and the referee should be extra harsh in their calls on anyone who fights Aspinall. Because he’s such a good guy, how dare them. The rest of the fighters that deal with way worse fouls and don’t get the benefit of the doubt? Fuck ‘em.

Oh yeah, and Ante Delija should have been the winner last weekend.

Or just mandatory point deductions for all eye pokes, regardless of opponent.

It's well known at this point that the striking style of parrying attacks with your open palm lead hand, pushing your palm towards your opponents' face, leads to eye pokes. While any individual eye poke might not be premeditated, there is definitely a degree of recklessness of "I don't really care if I end up poking him, because I won't lose a point anyway".

That needs to change, and I can't see how it will change without either 1) mandatory point deductions for eye pokes or 2) banning extending your open palm towards your opponent at all. And the first one is much easier to accomplish IMO.

I feel bad for Aspinall haters, dudes haven’t slept in a week.
Dude I’ve been laughing my ass off. This is the funniest back to back weekend I’ve ever seen in my entire life of watching MMA.
