P4P is based on resume and like him or not ( i did not) Ward was beating the best guys out there for a time.
I forgot you werent a Ward fan until just now. I guess it's because Ward was the lesser of two evils in his last two fights.

He's a dirty fighter, I don't like that. I thought he was unnecessarily dirty against Kessler, when he was dominating the guy anyway, and Kessler walked away with cuts that fucked up the rest of his career.

Yeah, I dont disagree with that. I never liked Kovalev and he felt like it was mostly MMA fans that liked him. So, I became a ward fan for those two fights.

p4p has no clear measurement. Its a mixture of qualities people expect and that varies depending who you ask. Sports journalists have argued over that for decades. I have no problem with people seing Ward much higher. Can respect that.

Its ,for me!, also about how dominant someone wins, how he is able to transcend weight classes, how unique his skillset is, the level of opponents...etc. The way he prepared his wins disqualifies him from such a list as I take out f.e. Kovalev 1 and Kessler (there are more!)= . Make him take his fights not in the US and he gets dq`d again and again by a neutral ref. Thats not p4p . But if someone doesnt rate that high sure he was a very technical and intelligent fighter no doubt about that.

I guess that post deleted my Sherdog credibility :D

Ward is very great and highly skilled, really talented boxer but let's be honest, one from dirtiest boxers U.S ever had and it isn't about just Kovalev's fight.
Ppl sometimes claims about Floyd etc, where I don't agree.
Crawford and A.J likes they or not... are attempting to box clean, the same Lopez too btw. Likes they or no.

Stuff about Ward had been widely discussed about a lot of his fights against...american boxers too.
There's not only Kessler stuff and Kovalev...
And I don't post biased opinions because about the same Wilder I can't tell that he is dirty boxer. Likes he or no.

I keep hearing that Usyk's trunks were high? Maybe people are confusing him with Dubois.

he's tying his nuts up to the waistband of his trunks. i don't know how this isn't more of a problem in boxing
boxers tying their beanbags up with the drawstrings of their shorts is a huge issue and I’m surprised it hasn’t been addressed yet by the commission

You can see in multiple of the replays throughout this thread that it lifts the entire groin guard with the force of the shot. A groin guard in Boxing isn't like a metal egg shaped cup you slip into your shorts, it the protects the whole genital area as per @randomg1t point about avoiding the explosion of your nuts.

If that piece of equipement gets uppercutted at the top then its gonna force the whole thing to ride up, giving your nuts a big ol' whack. The idea that Uysk was intentionally faking or lying about this shot having caused pain in his nuts doesen't hold any water to me.

The ref should have been clear about the belt line in the pre-fight instructions in the ring but Barry Jones is completely correct to say that, in the absence of any special instructions by the ref, if the shot lands on the groin guard then it illegal. On my first couple viewings I though it was more borderline as to how bad it was but from different angles I think it obviously lands square on the groin guard and lifts it up. I've been hit with shots like that and believe me you're going to feel as though someone has just dinged you straight in the testicles immediately afterwards.

Finally, someone who sounds like they've actually boxed.

Please Ward P4p nr1 . That' was a joke back then . Was just the usual us hype. There is a reason he isn't that famous after retirement. He always used fouls when under pressure much more than others. That's not a p4p. Canelo or GGG f.e. could solve that by technical brilliance, Ward by leaning, holding, headbutting and ball busting. His marquee win was a blatant hometown robbery. He was a good boxer but even in his win lvs a shell of his former self Kovalev had to use fouls and the protection from ref with the constant hometown reffing that protected him. It's absurd to call a win legit when he literally ko d him by busting his nuts. "But he dominated before" wow what an argument :D Especially as he did that as a fight strategy. Ran like a ram into Kessler ... etc Ward could have just used low blows, holding and headbutts and wouldn't have been dq d and been praised for his situational genius by the one sided us commentators.

Wards career is one big story of hometown reffing corruption protecting a dirty snooze fest of a fighter way above any reason. Sure he also had great technical abilities I don't doubt that but him going in like that devalues his whole career. P4p nr1 <45> We will not find common ground with Ward.
That's plain ridiculous. I get that you're upset that he broke Kovalev, but that was 6 years ago. It's time to let go.

i dont see the outrage here, he got hit with a blow that was below the belt, the ref said it was low....so the fight goes on

the ref is the man in charge
I don't, either. Half of the glove was below the belt and it was fully below the beltline. The ref could've explicitly allowed beltline shots and it still wouldn't have been a legal blow.

I'm more an mma fan then boxing, so I had looked at this as legal not being a nut shot. Reading more into it I don't see how anyone but hurt dubois camp and diehards fans can say that punch lands completely above the navel, so it's illegal.

Not sure about I it glanced that nut guard as some are saying but that doesn't matter in the rules of the sport.

Right and it's obvious that it wasn't above the navel or even on the navel itself. It was below it.

Usyks naval could’ve been inch below the top of his belt line and nearly all of Dubois fist would still be underneath it.
The people thinking that it was on the beltline are mistaken. It's evident that they don't know where the beltline is. It's the topmost line of the belt before it meets the skin. Below it is the belt itself, the waistband, which isn't the beltline. The glove made contact both on the belt itself and below it. Half of it fell below the belt which is well below the navel. Anyone that thinks otherwise has no concept of human anatomy.

Reactions: Err
The shot was low, and it was clear from Usyk's reaction that it was a low blow too. You don't wince like that immediately from a body shot, but you do when it's a groin shot.
