DWCS Dana's Contender Series 2025 thread

UFC needs scouts they should make a podcast on ufc fight pass where they can look at them.

MMA not like USA football where scouts have sites like 247Sports which has been the most accurate scouting entity among the recruiting industry when it comes to evaluating first-round prospects subscription-based sports websites. Their main competor RIVALS was just bought by another company a sports website like RIVALS they could buy and add MMA if they afraid the cost of a scout would high.
I like this idea. I’m not familiar with the NFL scouting program you mentioned, but I think a 30 minute weekly show where they discuss and show footage of the fights of the prospects they’re signing for the upcoming season of DWCS would be great.

Other cool fights have been announced
Fighting Nerd Icaro Brito vs Javier Reyes
Sofia Montenegro replacing Tarin to face Jeisla Chaves
Joksovic is said to face Michael Oliveira, who seems to be a killer

I am not surprised Luke Fernandez and Baisangur Susurkaev don't have opponents so far

Thanks, added to OP.

I will say, huge props to Tommy Gantt. I saw him win his second pro fight last year and I was like, looks good but I'm not going to track him super closely because he's older and so young in his career.

He's fought 10 pro fights in 2024 & 2025. That's wanting it. That's activity. Too many US fighters fight once in January, go on vacation for a month, spend the next 3 months getting back in shape to fight. Then spend 3 more months looking for a perfect opponent. He got out there and booked fights and fought them, and that's how you get better at MMA.

Just fought bums though. I'm 50/50 on that approach.

I would rather people get in the cage and get cage time against bad opponents than sit around for months waiting for curated matchups. I think there is some empirical evidence that having a ton of fights, even against cans, is better than trying to get into the UFC with 4 or 5 total fights.

Looking at Andrey Pulyaev record who just destroyed Nick Klein tonight, he lost a couple years ago to a guy named Anvarbek Daniyalbekov who's 10 - 0 with 9 KO's.

Dana, bring this man in.

He was meant to be on last year I think it was but he had a visa issue I think.

He's okay. He reminds me of Armen Petrosyan.

Pulyaev's last fight looked quite different, he looked abysmal.

Think you're right sadly. Watched Soo Hwan's last two fights and this is a certified battle of the bums. Both abysmal.
McCorry abysmal? What's your pro MMA record sir?

Don't let my opinion bother you, he's been fed a relatively comfortable path to a 12/12 three fight contract. Happy days.

His opponent is 7-1 in Road FC, the best organization in Korea, and maybe top 3 in Asia
He's clearly not a bum, and a step up for Paddy, compared to who he faced in Cage Warriors

Already already got Paddy's cousin having a pop at me, now you.

Okay, I do agree that he's a step up for Paddy, and I hope he wins, but I think Hwang's passiveness could get him in trouble against him. I have to go back to my original statement though, even if it did sound a bit harsh, this is a battle of the bums.

Hwang's last two opponents have been journeymen.

Han Seul Kim is a 35 year old welterweight that took the fight at catchweight, and has lost his last 4. Last 3 prior to the Hwang fight. Hwang scraped a 29-28 decision. His output was pathetic.

The latest fight is even more comical, Dong Hwan Lim was 6-7... 6 wins, 7 defeats. I also scored the fight to Lim - I'm not going to say it was a robbery but it wasn't pretty. The YouTube comments are hilarious too if you get bored.

If you go into big men, Korea is one of those countries where the local scene is so small that the good fighters are facing each other, and you can be good and end up with a 6-7 record (a little bit like WMMA). That's why 7-1 at MW is quite good there
Now, let's reverse the role. You are saying the UFC matchmakers are matching bums in DWCS. Now, could you pick us a Western European MW and an East Asian MW who would fight in the DWCS and are way better than Hwang and McCorry? Regarding Western Europe, Augen being injured, Currie cannot get a visa, Belandi being a decision machine, I don't think you can get better than McCorry, Bouafia, and Mario the Italian with an Albanian name. I don't know the East Asian scene, but 7-1 at Road FC seems quite good

I'm not here to matchmake, I just want to see Paddy get KO'd. That's it. That's all I want. Whether it's this fight, or whether it's down the line in the UFC.

How did this snowball.

I don't understand the logic here, if the guys aren't good enough, they shouldn't be on the show, this shouldn't be a race to the bottom.

However, you can't take out Dario Bellandi just because he's a decision machine. So I'd say Bellandi, and the guy he beat last, Kanisauskas. Who else do CW have... I'm sure they have more I'm unaware of. I have an Albanian from CW that's rated at 4 on my spreadsheet, which is higher than that of Patrick. So him too.

Also I'd fly over to France and give Matthieu Duclos another shot.

If the east Asian's can't produce anything better than Hwang then I'm afraid we just have to say no to them taking part in the contender series. I'm not here to force feed the likes of Puja Tomar to the MMA world.
