Comey's not-so-nothingburger nothingburger

To all the Trump defenders in here, I find it odd that you can listen to what Comey said and pretend like context doesn't matter. When the President of the United States clears out a room (including your boss), then has a direct conversation and tells him that he "hopes he can let it go", that's not a fucking hope. That's a thinly veiled demand. Just because Trump stopped short of saying "I would like to illegally use pressure on you to stop an investigation" does not mean Trump didn't trying to influence the investigation. Comey clearly got the insinuation of what it meant and found it so inappropriate that he immediately informed those around him. Even Trump admitted in his own words that firing Comey eased up pressure on him related to the investigation. So stop taking his sentences so fucking literal when it's convenient for you and making wild accusations against the other party.

This is like when you own a corner shop and a mafia member approaches you one night and say's "I'd like you to pay me for protection", he's insinuating that there will be consequences if you don't pay him. He might not come out and openly say it, but you know what the fuck he means. If you look at Trumps behavior and lies regarding the situation, he clearly was doing some fucked up shit.

You're a traitor to the American people if you'll pick party politics over what's right.

Then how come no is up in arms when Comey said that Loretta Lynch told him not to refer as the Hillary Clinton email scandal as an 'investigation'. What about the context then? What about when Obama told Russia that he would have "more flexibility" after the election? Why didn't he get impeached for obvious ties to Russia? Asking someone for 'honest loyalty' is the probably one of the least incendiary statements that the left could have targeted.

You don't even realize that there is plenty of other things to be able to attack Trump about other than some dumb conspiracy with no proof (the budget, healthcare, lack of fulfilling core campaign promises). All you have to go on is feelings. I feel like he is corrupt. You have already passed a sentence and you are looking back for the evidence. You have fallen into the trap that every conspiracy lunatic falls in.

It's exactly analogous to if Hillary won, and the republican party accused her of being a witch. Then it suddenly comes out that Hillary has a broom in her office. Republicans demand she be impeached because she is obviously a witch since she has a broom in her office.

That is how ridiculous you look. Maybe try focusing your efforts on winning in 2020 and getting back support from the working class, because if your platform for 2020 is that Trump isn't the rightful president, you will find yourselves losing even harder in 2020.

You some realize the President has the LEGAL authority to end any investigation they please. They can also, you know, pardon anyone they please.

You're also ignoring the fact that the whole Russian investigation with regard to Trump is, literally, fake news. The Russians have of course tried to influence elections, as do we. The trick to eliminating that influence is to not run the worst candidate in modern history.

To your last line. President Trump has already succeeded simply by having liberals pretend the care about America...

So is that your argument now? Well he could end an investigation into his own people anyways? Ending an investigation to shield friends from charges is absolutely impeachable. You don't have commit a crime to be impeached as President. Poor behavior while holding the office is enough. If the House and Senate decided that the President ended an investigation to protect his people, they can sure as fuck impeach him.

Hillary was absolutely a shitty candidate who didn't deserve it. Any interference in our elections by another state is seen as a hostile act, making them not our allies. Making them coming into our Oval Office and joking about relieving pressure days after firing the FBI director who led the investigation of Russian attacks highly inappropriate.

While he might not fall under criminal liability due to crafty wording, he's still liable under the impeachment process for poor behavior while performing his duties.

Posner is wrong. Trump's intent is not at all based on Comey's interpretation. Trump hoped Comey would let Flynn go. Does that mean Trump ordered Comey to let Flynn go? No. Case closed.

LOVE the mafia comparison.

"Donnie Two Scoops" is what they call him on dem underground

The Loretta Lynch thing was fucked up and should have been looked at. Talking about flexibility during the election season isn't quite the same as asking someone to stop an investigation. If he had ties to Russia like Trump, I'd imagine the Republican party would have a huge issue with it. Since it's their golden boy, they don't. And he didn't ask for honest loyalty. Trump asked for loyalty. Comey countered with the fact that he would be honest and refused to pledge loyalty over honesty. Trump saved face with "honest loyalty". You know it. I know it. Stop pretending it's anything other than that.

I have more than one problem with Trump and his behavior. Working in the NYC construction industry, I'm well aware of how he behaves. We don't do business with him for a specific reason. He is corrupt and his behavior from the last decades speaks to that.

It's exactly analogous to if Hillary won, and the republican party accused her of being a witch. Then it suddenly comes out that Hillary has a broom in her office. Republicans demand she be impeached because she is obviously a witch since she has a broom in her office.

No it's analogous to if Hillary won, and went to the FBI director and privately hoped he stopped investigating her friends. Then when he doesn't, she fires him and gives conflicting stories about it. Fox News would have a motherfucking shit storm with that and you and I both know it. This denial from the right is politics pure and simple. Any neutral person can look at his actions and see he has no integrity.

That is how ridiculous you look. Maybe try focusing your efforts on winning in 2020 and getting back support from the working class, because if your platform for 2020 is that Trump isn't the rightful president, you will find yourselves losing even harder in 2020.

My platform is that Democrats should have ran with Bernie and that the DNC worked with Hillary to stop that. The Republicans should have put a stop to the mad dog, Trump a long time ago. Someone with fucking integrity should have been elected, I don't give a fuck which party.

I agree that asking for honest loyalty wasn't exactly seemly, but don't act like it's even close to anything impeachable or a smoking gun. Hell given the way Trump talks it might have just been a Trumpism. Also, if you exposed any politician's private conversations I'm sure would be just as incendiary.

Comey ensured that Trump was not under investigation for Russian ties. So when Trump fired him, he didn't have any indication that he was under investigation by Comey. Also Comey is not the FBI, firing him does not stop an investigation.

In regards to Michael Flynn, Comey says he's investigating Michael Flynn, Trump thinks there isn't anything there so he recommends Comey to 'drop it'. He has the power to exact more than just a recommendation in that situation, but he simply chose to throw Comey a recommendation. Also we don't have any other context of the conversation, so we can't determine Trump's intentions from just that statement. Again not exactly the best way to go about it, but not a smoking gun, not impeachable, and something that politicians do all the time.

You should learn more about impeachment procedures. Trump was demanding that Comey follow the Trump bandwagon and do what he wants, or his job was gone. It's clear by the fact that he was happy with Comey until then and lied about why he fired him and the timing. Improper behavior in office is impeachable. Doesn't need to be criminal.

No, it doesn't stop it. But he could easily replace him with someone with a more favorable opinion in how to proceed with the investigation.

Historically, the President doesn't tell the FBI how to proceed in investigations, especially when the investigation is against the President's friends and family. It doesn't look good, and again is quite possibly impeachable.

This is embarrassing.

No, what's embarrassing is having a piece of shit, slum lord, reality tv show, authoritarian with no idea what he's doing running the greatest "free" country in the world's history. There's literally thousands of more qualified candidates and the ignorant white trash of middle America let a piece of shit rich kid from NYC trick them into thinking he cares about their lives at all. What's embarrassing is the DNC allowing Hillary to run for President when she clearly didn't deserve it.

What's not embarrassing is seriously investigating allegations of corruption in our highest office.

What Comey said was essential what we already knew happened. (Oh, yeah, I remember when a bunch of Trumpsters were like show me the evidence! about the Memo).

Damn those evil Trump supporters holding out for more evidence! Especially after Comey himself testified that much of what is reported about the Russian investigation is false.

Anyways, the real surprise was how personal Comey was. I've always thought he was a straight shooter, and in my eyes, he basically ripped Trump apart. Check out this sample video. It looks pretty damning to me. And does NOT take Obstruction off the table.

The day before, all 5 Intel leads testified that have never felt pressured by Trump to end an investigation.

Comey then came and said that while he understood Trump to be asking him to end the Flynn investigation, Trump didn't explicitly. Furthermore, Comey testified that it would have been LEGAL for Trump to ask him to the end investigation anyway. He stated that Trump never threatened him, and Trump or no one else ever followed up with the request.

That's it. While it may be a scummy thing to do on Trump's part, and shouldn't be held up as his proudest moment, its not illegal and there will be no impeachment.

Liberal Tears like these are what Trump will sail to victory upon in 2020.

"I think she was extremely careless. I think she was negligent. That I could establish. What we can't establish is that she acted with the necessary criminal intent."

President Donald Trump was in a meeting with former FBI director James Comey Feb. 14 when he asked Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Vice President Mike Pence to leave the room. It was at that time, Trump asked Comey to “let go” of the investigation into retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn.

So are you saying as fragile as Comey's feelings about the president's intentions and out of context quotes are going to be used as a grounds for impeachment?

Because at the end of the day that is what this is. Just feelings and out of context quotes. No facts, no actual use of power to achieve a goal. I am sure you can find plenty of people who 'felt' Obama was implying corruption, just like when he promised Russia that he would have more power. That is clear corruption! From an out of context quote and my feelings.

Oh wait, no one cared about that, because it wasn't that big of a deal. Just like this shouldn't be a big deal.

Also I guarantee you if you release other politicians private out of context conversations to the public you will find significantly more condemning verbiage than what Trump said.

I saw a lot of posts today from Trump defenders that read like a sigh of relief, acting like Comey's testimony wasn't that damning after all. But I'm not sure that's too close to what actually played out. Comey stopped short of saying Trump deliberately obstructed justice, but he was never in a position to make that call. What Comey said was essential what we already knew happened. (Oh, yeah, I remember when a bunch of Trumpsters were like show me the evidence! about the Memo).

some of the most juicy questions he answered with: " i cant answer that right now."

Actually I'd best most happy with a fiscally conservative and socially liberal candidate. I don't fit in with liberals or conservatives. Both are fucking retards.

Out of context? We have the context pretty clearly written down in a memo from the FBI director while he was acting in that role and confident that he would be holding his job. His firing. The lies from the Trump administration. It shows to the pattern of corruption and lack of integrity of the man holding down the Executive branch. It's simply the next thing in his shit flinging contest of a Presidency.

If they release other private conversations of politicians that insinuate corruption and a lack of integrity, I say fucking fire those bitches too. Bring them up on charges if it sticks. Why the fuck are you so happy with a sub-par leader?

Sorry, I don't believe in undermining democracy based on the feelings of an incompetent. You can't say his intentions are clear because you don't know his intentions. He hasn't actually used his power to stop any investigation. The amount you're inferring based on two words of a conversation and Comey's (who has proven to be politically biased) feelings is insane.

You're assuming Comey is this angelic figure that could do no wrong, when in fact he's proven that he is politically biased and incompetent, he has leaked classified information, and was fired from his position (so maybe he could even hold a grudge)? You shouldn't take the last words of a crazy dying man seriously, especially when you are basing the removal of a president based on his feelings.

I wasn't under the impression that using our system of checks and balances when allegations of misconduct arise was undermining democracy. Learn something new every day I guess.

Beat me to it.

Studies show that Libs are Low-T and they are now proving that they don't even have intelligence to fall back on. How pathetic are Nu-Males? Do they have any redeeming qualities at all?

Trump could have just pardoned Flynn if he wanted and he still wouldn't be guilty of obstruction of justice.

CNN (and the rest of mainstream media) has been lying to you and your frail little mind is susceptible to propaganda. Keep grasping.

Back to back tours in Afghanistan and Iraq, and a law degree. How bout you bitch?

@Hans Gruber You just got raped.

Lol so much jimmie rustlin' over nutin burgers buffoonery itt. Democrats and republicans are playing you guys out like a fukin fiddle mate.

Only two times in US history has the president of the US been even formally put in the process of impeachment.....and guess what?!

They were acquitted by the senate! Zomg what a shocker!!!

Damn fools getting rustled over political outrage porn. Ffs US politics is about as beneficial as :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: porn. But yes let's make threads on shit that doesn't matter and of which nothing will come of all this. wasted breath and lost time is the end product of these actors in Hollywood err I mean D.C

Anyways yes I'm entertained thanks for memories.
