Wrestling Catch Wrestling United

Sounds great. Interesting to know you had a great match with Raul, I guess in your experience he's legitimate as a competitor and coach since some have had doubts about him (a certain wolfman, for one).

Yes. I must admit that I was suprised how well Raul did. He has developed a lot! I hope to start a little CACC-group here in Finland now so I can get better and have my revenge one day. :icon_evil

FUCK JAKE SHANNON...look I dont know if all of modern catch is bullshit Im sure some of the techniques are still legit....but this guy Jake Shannon is ruining catch by trying to represent it. he is one of the biggest but least successful frauds out there with his hypnosis bull shit and 'i invented the mace" bullshit. He try's to shit on bjj but he has never competed, he has never won and grappling tournaments or challenge matches, he has never produces a high level grappler. This guy would get fucking wresked by a avergae bjj blue belt let alone if he trued to roll with guys like roger gracie or marcelo garcie he would get his skinny little neck ripped off.

Umm. OK. Jake doesn't coach. He's always deferred to Dick Cardinal (retired), the late Billy Robinson and now Wade Schalles who is combining seminars with Sam Kressin, an assistant coach who spent the most time with Billy Robinson in the modern era at his camps and seminars, and was (is) a legit BJJ Blackbelt before he even started with Robinson (his lineage is Chris Haueter - the main Metamoris referee - to Rigan Machado). Jake produced videos for these coaches and arranged the logistics and itineraries for their camps and seminars which gave them an income, since wrestling doesn't have a pension plan.

He coined the term macebell and based it on the Pehlwani Gada exercises Karl Gotch introduced to him. Can't knock the entrepreneurial side to that, especially now years later companies like Onnit are getting in on the action.

I can't speak to his hypnosis, but knows he runs a small hypnotherapy business where he lives in Utah and seems to be legit helping people.

Jog on ...

Jake Shannon trys to shit on BJJ but his coaches are bjj black belts??? wtf? This guy is such a fraud with his bullshit scientific wrestling website and fake ass 'attend a weekend seminar certification'. Honestly if this guy loves to shit on BJJ so much why doesnt he post any videos of him rolling with bjj blackbelts. A training partner of mine was actually stupid enough to pay for one of his seminars and he told me that they teach some decent stuff on pinning and takedowns but most of submissions are either bjj or very low probability submissions. He also rolled with Jake Shannon and told me a average bjj blue belt would steamroll Shannon.

What are Bjj subs? Pretty sure chokes, armbars, and leg locks exist before Bjj. The kimura is named after a judo player with a catch background.

The Ude Garami (or is it reverse Ude Garami) has been in Judo / Kano Jiu Jitsu likely since its inception. It's possible Rikidozan showed it to Kimura, but more likely it was part of his arsenal since the beginning.

You had it right, reverse Ude Garami.

Don't you guys know, BJJ created all subs and leverage....

The point is that it existed before BJJ. Both judo and catch have it although they use them differently. I would like to know what he means by BJJ subs? There are a few things that are strictly BJJ or strictly Catch but not much and then only because of the rule sets in each sport. If you put them in a free fight, grappling is grappling and it comes down more to the attitude and philosophy than anything else.

And what for the ruleset allows and disallows.

I might actually just go to one of those Jake Shannon seminars hell just so I can roll with him and put his ass to sleep

And what would that prove? Manny pacqiuao is 100 times the boxer roach ever was and Marcelo is a way better grappler than his coach. Knowledge /= ability.

I'm guessing you don't know Jake has nerve degeneration in his neck after going into remission from cancer there. That's why his neck looks so odd. He doesn't coach, he can barely role any more.

lol troll

Wrestling Jake Shannon doesn't prove much as has been stated he brings in qualified coaches and has never professed to be a top level wrestler. Now if you decide to wrestle cecchine it'd be worth filming :P Though he's pretty old and injured by this point.

Joking aside I agree with some of the posts above, the ability to coach and the ability to compete are two completely different skillsets. Knowledge and ability to break things down for students and bring out the best in them does not equal ability.

Marcelo's coach is/was Fabio Gurgel. Marcelo may have accomplished more, but Gurgel was a world champ. He reached the top level.

I agree with your point though.

When Jake first brought Billy Robinson to America from Japan (the story of him living in Japan is quite sad after his pro wrestling career, but that's an aside), Robinson needed an assistant and essentially Uke because of Robinson's physical limitations. His first set of camps in the US had at most a dozen people attend. Most of these guys backgrounds were either BJJ, varying levels of wrestling experience (folkstyle, freestyle or greco), CSW and traditional martial arts experience.

Kressin started going initially after one of his BJJ students went to a camp and noticed an improvement in his positioning and riding, and was curious to see for himself. Kressin trained under Robinson as much as he could over the last 6 years or so.

The original idea of becoming a full coach under Robinson was based around the 10,000 hour principle, sadly Robinson passed away earlier this year as most people know. It's good that his lineage is continuing on though.

having Cancer does not change the fact he is a scumbag conman...and you keep talking about coaching? name one guy shannon has produced who is high level in mma or grappling? So let me get this straight shannon cant fight, he cant coach, and yet he wants to walk around and say bjj sucks and is ineffective in mma. All i know is jake shannon better watch his skinny little neck talking about bjj like that because bjj guys will smash him and his little fake catch buddies.
