lol.... Did I upset a wrestler in the closet Rasslin Fanboy?

OK, CM PUNK is the Catch Wrestler, since he did Catches in Pro-rasslin. I am the Jiu-jitsu guy, because I first did Jiu-jitsu in 1997......but then again, I was also training with Dan Severn, and in shooto as well as other things. HaHa, either way Catch vs Jiu-jitsu!

Ive sparred and rolled with Roger have u? Theres a nice pic of Lyoto doing a leg kick sweep, u can see me sparring Roger in the background. IF Roger wants to beat me up some more, he can at the next One FC in Malaysia if they pay me decent.

Ive won 3 NHB/MMA matches by 1st round submission, there is vids of that for all to see.

I proud to announce that Catch-wrestling is making a comeback to Helsinki Athletic Club beginning of this year!

1.1.1905, so exactly 110 years ago Catch-wrestling was first introduced in Finland in the event of Helsinki Athletic Club. The public thought it is too "raw", so it never got that popular here until it changed into Olympic Freestyle around 1920's.

HAC was established 1891 and was the first wrestling and athletic club in Finland. It produced many World- and Olympic Champion wrestlers in the first half of 20th century for exemple Verner Weckman, the winner or 1906 and 1908 Olympics. HAC wrestler Armas Laitinen, learned Catch-wrestling in US after John Pesek broke his arm in a shoot match. After the Finn came back home he coached the national team 1920 and 1924 that won many medals both in Greco and Freestyle.

So if you ever visit Finland come wrestle with us at Helsinki Athletic Club!

why would you call out CM Punk and say 'gracie bjj vs catch' as if Punk (a whitebelt) represented bjj. Why dont you call out Roger Gracie and see how quickly your catch wrestling gets exposed and you get choked out.

Roger isn't magic or invincible. A mediocre MMA fighter or "MMA grappler" like Tim Kennedy dominated Roger. His JJ wasn't working there. I am sure a Catch guy like Barnett or someone of equal caliber would more than handle Roger in a grappling match.

I also seen a couple of your systema punching videoes your technique is mediocre at best you had a video where you practicing with some amutuer boxer and you titled the video something along the lines of systema punches are harder then boxing punches. lol wtf why are all you catch guys frauds

Wait.... you label Catch guys (who are grapplers) as frauds because someone's opinion on the internet is that Systema punches are harder than boxing punches (which is an opinion on striking and nothing whatsoever to do with grappling)?

and con artists trying to make a quick buck. As an amutuer wrestler I went into bjj because bjj guys are real, not tryna con you

As if there aren't hundreds of fake BJJ blackbelts out there running McDojos, instructors who don't show you all the important details of techniques (unless of course you take a private with them and pay more money), instructors who aren't there to teach half the time, but instead have their blues and purples run and teach the class. As if Ari Bolden and Joe Paredes are made of fairydust and don't really exist.

and proven in the fight game

And also proven to be declining in the fight game. JJ works great against untrained people, but not so great against other competitive grapplers.

...all you catch guys are jokes ive seen your record Dan lol

So all CACC guys are a joke, including a world class world champ like Barnett, because Dan's record is a "joke"? (btw, where is your record?)

Please explain to me how any of this makes sense.

if it gets more people competing, then its a good thing.

competition is the life force of any martial art, and the rule set shapes its character. if you wana revive catch, there needs to be an outlet for catch skills; hosting a tournament is worth a hundred seminars.

The interview explores issues and problems that have arisen in recent years, and it's not just about hosting tournaments. I'm on my second listen through.

I am hosting another day of Catch-as-Catch-can Wrestling technique and wrestling matches. The seminar portion will be 2 hours then after a lunch break we will referee matches for anyone wanting to get out there and wrestle!

I will be teaching the finer points of some of the bread and butter holds of Catch Wrestling: the Top and Double Wristlock (Or Americana and Kimura for BJJ folks). Everyone learns these holds early in nearly all submission wrestling styles but I can promise you that I will change the way you think and use these holds after this workshop

Afterwards we will running basic Catch Wrestling matches (Sub or pin only). We will pair up folks who want to want to get on the mats and compete in the Catch Wrestling style.

When: Saturday, February 14th

The seminar starts at 11am to 1pm.
Catch Wrestling starts at 2pm until finished

Location: CSW Headquarters 4080 N. Palm Ave Fullerton CA 98235
Cost: $50 ($40 to CSW students) cash or credit

-T-shirts, Technique DVDS, and other merch will be availible.
-Wrestling shoes are not required but suggested
-No filming but please bring a notebook

Catch Wrestling Workshop On Top and Double Wristlocks

Here is an interview I just did with Eddie Goldman. The Catch Wrestling community has been bickering, fighting, and talking without acting far too much. The gauntlet has been thrown down and the line declared. The catch wrestling community needs to start working together and not against each other.

Check it out here:

Hey Josh, I've been listening to your recent interview with Eddie and I just want to say I'm a big fan of what you doing for Catch wrestling. What you say about Catch wrestlers, wrestling under whatever rule set is available. Really inspires me, inspires me to train no matter the style. I live in Maryland, so from my knowledge there's not much, if any Catch here. But we have an open college wrestling club and I was training there with no prior wrestling experience and want to go back. I'm also looking to do no gi, to get the Submission part of wrestling

Get as much time in with the college club as you can. That's essentially training on fundamentals that will allow you to build your submission game off of.

Videos can help and some great training partners to help and be willing and wanting to drill.

Thanks Josh. I remember Billy Robinson said once that pins helped with getting hooks because the guy struggled not to get pinned and would leave limbs out for a sub. But with no gi, some of those guys are so relaxed/content on there back. Do you think the guard and its many forms makes its harder for a catch wrestler to do really well and win with "catch subs" in no gi? BJJ is sooo focused on the Guard where CACC is a different animal. Thats alienated me from no gi bjj in the past, but you learn to be open.

The goal shouldn't to over-specialize to a point that you cannot compete unless things are just so but to be the best wrestler you can possibly be. If you're doing no-gi or anything BJJ derived then you'll have to compensate for the lack of pinning, twisting leg locks, and neck locks but those skill should still be applicable. I do think it's easier to play guard than to work from referee's position (I have a whole theory on this) but none-the-less, if you can learn to take someone down and then break them down, it shouldn't be that hard ot figure out how to attack a guard. It's just wrestling in any case.

You get on top and get in a scoring position? That's where your pinning skills should keep you there and get the point/control your opponent. There's also plenty of opportunity to use plenty of other holds beyond neck locks/heel hooks/etc.

The fact is there aren't many opportunities to compete in a catch wrestling styled or really, a non-BJJ derived submission wrestling competition, but that's no reason to not go out there, apply your craft, and just wrestle!

Competition is where one's skills are truly tested and earned and there's no substitute for that.

Oooh. Do you have that theory posted somewhere?

Oooh. Do you have that theory posted somewhere?

No and I don't think it's very controversial in nature. I think it would make sense to people for a lot of very simple reasons too. Not a slag against the bottom scissors (Guard position) in any case.

Someday...

Josh

Bottom scissors are what I use when I've got a dingleberry, as in "darling, where have you put my bottom scissors? I'm about to take a dump, and I've feeling things could get claggy."

Thanks Josh, I hope you come out to Florida someday, I would love to do a seminar with you since I started CSW last fall.

I dig the rules and it's a shame there isn't many tournaments with this format.

Looks like Frank Shamrock will return to teaching martial arts to kids and adults in a Long Island NY Ninjutsu center called LI Ninjutsu centers. From what I hear it's a pretty long standing martial arts center that has a ton of square footage.
