Wrestling Catch Wrestling United

Man, I need to get to CSW, it's been a couple of weeks. Training with Frank would be pretty damned cool!

The goal shouldn't to over-specialize to a point that you cannot compete unless things are just so but to be the best wrestler you can possibly be. If you're doing no-gi or anything BJJ derived then you'll have to compensate for the lack of pinning, twisting leg locks, and neck locks but those skill should still be applicable. I do think it's easier to play guard than to work from referee's position (I have a whole theory on this) but none-the-less, if you can learn to take someone down and then break them down, it shouldn't be that hard ot figure out how to attack a guard. It's just wrestling in any case.

You get on top and get in a scoring position? That's where your pinning skills should keep you there and get the point/control your opponent. There's also plenty of opportunity to use plenty of other holds beyond neck locks/heel hooks/etc.

The fact is there aren't many opportunities to compete in a catch wrestling styled or really, a non-BJJ derived submission wrestling competition, but that's no reason to not go out there, apply your craft, and just wrestle!

Competition is where one's skills are truly tested and earned and there's no substitute for that.

Hey, thanks a lot for your reply Josh. Hey everyone, looks like I finally get a chance to train some Catch wrestling! Turns out I'm only about 2 and a half hours away from the Snake pit USA gym in NJ. There have a seminar in late Feb and I'd love to mix it in with my wrestling training. I'd love to tell you guys what I think after I attend.

Awesome!!

Hey guys...do any of you happen to have by chance Hidetaka Asos Submission Bible??

you're such a leech Dan. maybe if Barnett responds and tells you how bad your shitty videos are you can add him to the list of athletes you pretend to know on your sad website nobody visits.

Quit being a dick. For one, it's rude. For another, considering how many people are dicks to Dan, and how little effect it seems to have on his continued posting, it's pretty obvious it's a wasted effort.

Don't like his videos/posts? There's a handy ignore option on the forum. Put him on it and you can skip right over his posts. All you'll see is a small entry where his post would be saying that he posted and he's on your ignore list. I've made use of it with several posters who annoy the hell out of me.

so aggressive...I always like to think I can have banter with you but I think you genuinely get angry sometimes

nothing i post is supposed to be read as angry unless we're talking about Judo governing bodies. Read those in an insanity wolf voice.

I'm shitty to Dan because Dan is shitty to the board. It's one thing to offer a knowledgable instructional every so often, I think everyone appreciates those efforts and says as much.

Dan does what the Avellans did - a constant barrage of self-aggrandizing posts.

Some of what Dan posts is okay. Especially when he's not trying too hard to 'splain. things. MOST of what Dan posts only works on the types of students Dan attracts - people who don't know they should know better.

I really, truly believe most of the black belts that post on this board are just trying to spread around the knowledge.

Dan is a never-was trying to monetize his lack of success with a deluge of bad YouTube instructionals.

Grappling is not a used car.

Everyone learns these holds early in nearly all submission wrestling styles but I can promise you that I will change the way you think and use these holds after this workshop

Afterwards we will running basic Catch Wrestling matches (Sub or pin only). We will pair up folks who want to want to get on the mats and compete in the Catch Wrestling style.

When: Saturday, February 14th

The seminar starts at 11am to 1pm.
Catch Wrestling starts at 2pm until finished

Location: CSW Headquarters 4080 N. Palm Ave Fullerton CA 98235
Cost: $50 ($40 to CSW students) cash or credit

-T-shirts, Technique DVDS, and other merch will be availible.

Catch Wrestling Workshop On Top and Double Wristlocks

I hope you update us on how it went Josh!

I hope you update us on how it went Josh!

Small turnout but a lot of solid work was put in today.

3 HOURS on nothing but fundamentals and technical work on the Top and Double Wristlock. I honestly believe it was one of the most in depth, technical, and exacting lessons on those holds out there.

I have been working on the essential bio-mechanical aspects of what makes these locks work best for a while now, along with coach Paulson, and I think I blew some minds today.

Wouldn't be releasing this workshop on dvd like you did punishing rides? I've been really digging the DWL position as of late and any extra aspects of it would be awesome.

I've been to a handful of those seminars which are really in-depth and a lot of fun. Last one I went to was taught by Paulson. Wish I was able to retain half of what they show - the sub chains are crazy.

Here's one of John Potenza's vids where he goes through a quick sub chain - it's the type of stuff he'd teach us during grappling class:

I gotta ask. What's with the crybaby stuff regarding lineage and CACC? It seems petty to me anyway.

Dunno but since Josh came here, all the haters, the one who said cacc didnt exist or was a bad grappliing art etc are gone...

CACC is unregulated and any old Tom Dick or Harry could come out claiming it instead of putting in the long hours in BJJ.

Then there seemed to be a new ramp up to "push CACC forward" before some of the last of the old guard passed on, this group and others put a strong emphasis on what and who they thought CACC was.

Unregulated or regulated by to many is the problem. Catch seems to attract a lot of possers for some reason.

As much as I like to tease my friends that are BJJ guys, I learned how to defend myself on the bottom get out of bad positions from BJJ. You can learn something from every martial art.

As far as the top game goes, most of what I learned was from watching the Japanese and American Catch Wrestlers. I love leg locks, maybe a little more than I should.
