Great fight! You could see the Catch/wrestling influence mostly when your guy was on his back. He did a great job using the wrestling to quickly reverse from the bottom. Turning to turtle (although he was in trouble in the first) and deep half to single legs. Very nice.

Needs alot of work in the clinch and was surprised he lost the wrestling/takedown battle.

He looked real good ontop also from the guard, no need to pass if your opponent won't move his hips or threaten. Then later on his passing and topside was solid.

Congrates!

Thx!

Frankly, we didnt expect at all the takedown. We taught that the biggest gap in skill was on the ground in our favor, so, we said ' if it goes to the ground, he will pay for it.'

You are right about the clinch, he was in control, but wasnt going for the td, i saw during the second part of the second round that Max was beginning to gaz and he was aware of it, he was kind of 'saving fuel' in the clinch.

Cardio is a bitch! ;-)

Makes sense, you guys were winning the clinch while saving energy so that was working. I would of liked for better head position for this type of strategy tho. He didn't seem to be using his head at all.

Just something to think about.

Great fight overall and that early back attack escape was excellent! Didn't panic, fought the hands well and worked his escape!

Again, bottom game was pure Catch and really showed that you don't have except being on your back before "sweeping".

Thanks for sharing!

I agree about the head, didnt use it at all and should have!

Thx for the comments!

I havent got to watch the whole fight yet, but I was really entertained with what I saw. good job dude.

I gotta say...I LOVE CSW! I was getting Knee bared like crazy against my coach. I got my first knee bar on someone plus a few toe holds.

I don't know what it's called but my coach put his elbow against my shin and grabbed my foot and cranked...that hurt like balls! Plus some cool crossface flows from a russian grip.

Ya....I'm kinda excited! :)

This is used to defend vs a RNC but more than not doesn't payoff. Does hurt like hell tho! Other issue when hitting it is usually you don't have control of your opponent and it just turns into a scramble!

That's awesome you are loving it!

I'm sure if I tried it, it would turn into a scramble. Now that I think of it, he tried it twice on me, the 2nd time he did it while trying to pass my guard, I tried to scramble and he ended with picking up my leg and twisting into a kneebar.

Last night was interesting for sure.

I grew up watching WWF so I got pretty freaking excited when he showed us a "boston crab" with a single leg and lock flows from there.

The sport is refreshing for sure! I feel like we are encouraged to keep attacking...similar to Judo.

Ha! That's awesome man!

Sweet video on Luta-Livre with some glimpses of Catch's influence on the art. There are a couple of threads with the rest of the films.

Here's some tips from the late grandmaster of Catch.

great illustration on how getting back on top is alot easier once one knows where to break down the mental block in 'tds must be done standing'. one tool, many applications.

The reversal to single leg on the ground is a thing that we work a lot. Most of the time, you will not see our guy working other things from their back than reversal.

I like that one a lot! Especially in MMA when sometimes on the ground the MMA aspect takes away from the focus on cross facing and defensive grappling from top. Meaning rather than all the focus on keeping your opponent down, you add in strikes which open up escape opportunities.

He looked great!

Had a BJJ blue belt drop in on our CSW class. He was pretty surprised when I wasn't passing half guard and attacking his legs instead. He looked so lost LOL

LOVE IT! Rolling toe hold from top half, adjust into knee bar tap.

So, couple weeks ago the annual International Catch-Wrestling Seminar was held in Wigan at The Sanke Pit . Lots of techniques and wrestling, coach Roy Wood did most of the teaching but also coach Ian Bromley and coach Greg Crompton helpped us.

At the end of the week there was a really nice dinner party at some hotel with 8 CACC-matches held in the midldle of the room. Many of the guests where somehow connected to Catch, like Billy Riley's doughter and his old students. People got to see the prototype of soon to be relised book/research "Billy Riley - the man, the legasy" so know what I want for Christmas :)

I wrestled in two bouts. First against rock hard Ian Bromley, who stoppen my fireman's carry and pinned me with Half Alch. Then I had 17 min back and forth battle with Raul Ramirez from LA but in the end he catched me with a wicked toe-hold. Good experience all in all.

To see photos and videos from the seminar and other info about The Snake Pit, check out their FB-page: https://www.facebook.com/snakepituk?fref=ts

Here is a great comperative analysis on the differences of BJJ and CACC. What do you guys think, dose Sakuraba's fighting style represent well the typical approach of Catch-wrestler in MMA?

Sounds great. Interesting to know you had a great match with Raul, I guess in your experience he's legitimate as a competitor and coach since some have had doubts about him (a certain wolfman, for one).
