Wrestling Catch Wrestling United

I'm missing a Josh Barnett seminar today because I am coaching my kids football team and it's his birthday today............... Wasn't an easy decision and if I find out he is going over the front headlock series I will be devastated to have missed it!!!!!

Here is a cool quote from Frank Shamrock-
"Catch wrestling is the basis of my fighting style. And the basis of catch wrestling is conditioning, athleticism, and continuously trying to finish," he said.

"Anybody doing that is exciting. You're in shape, you know what to do, and you're constantly moving. So It's a recipe for creating exciting action."

Do you guys think catch wrestling is a strong base for mma along with judo and boxing?

Which is why people should skip catch and find a real wrestling coach.

Or if you can find someone like Roy Wood, successor of Billy Riley at the Snake Pit, and he coached at the 2012 Olympics in women's freestyle wrestling.

Or attend camps and seminars with Sam Kressin and Wade Schalles.

Just as a couple of examples.

BTW, Matt Lindland is working with Snake Pit USA now.

I know some people deny or doubt Crazy Bob's Cook's training of fighters at AKA, but here is Fitch talking about his upcoming battle with Paul Harris and why he thinks he will be ok.

well I must admit it was pretty random. I said this on the "legit no gi associaton" thread because the OP wanted recommendations on no gi guys. One of my teammates who is a brown belt under Phillipe Della Monica, brown/purple (not sure) under Eddie, and has trained under/with Josh Barnett and various guys told me that he actually rolled with Jake Shannon and he was the real deal.

Really hope his training with Cook, his wrestling base and his BJJ BB can get him through this fight. I know he isn't at a level he once was, but as one of my favorites for long i would like to see him have some success and maybe we can see him go up against Jake Shields and his American JJ.

Agree w this, WW in WSOF can be interesting, glad Jake called out Fitch. I rolled w Fitch once

I have it, I liked it. It's less a history than it is a group of interviews. I envisioned a kind of encyclopedia, or more of a detailed narrative about the history of the art. It's more a group of interviews, with some additional info and pictures.

I read it in mostly one sitting. It's good reading, and I enjoyed. Not complaining about the book.

Well, I left my BJJ coach because I was getting sick of him bashing every other styles of grappling.

I've always wanted to learn Catch but CACC gyms are hard to come by. Thankfully, I found a CSW club and I am loving it. I wrestled in H.S. and a Shodan in Judo so CSW goes well with my approach to grappling.

I won't call my self a catch wrestler, but until I can find a CACC certified gym, CSW will do just fine!

Just curious as someone who is somewhat new to Catch who's "certificate" would you except and what would you think it meant?

Also what rank did you earn in BJJ.

Glad you found a great fit for your style!
