News Carlos Barreto: Rumored Alex Pereira-Alexander Volkov Fight Makes 'Perfect Sense'

Volkov to big and strong he would beat the shit out of Alex
I'm pretty sure that if a one-footed Ciryl Gane did nothing but try to hold on to Poatan's arm for four minutes without even bothering to make a real attempt to finish a submission then Poatan would finish Gane long before four minutes were up. Volkov's also no more than 25 pounds bigger than HW Poatan, probably more like 20 - so a normal HW weight gap - and there's literally no evidence that he's strong enough to beat Poatan, much less too strong for him.

he wins, so what? Volkov has been KO'd by Black Beast. if he loses? holy shit you lost to a guy who got KO'd by Black Beast!

Izzy put him in a coffin with a touch dawg Volkov would fucking obliterate him he makes poatan look like a little boy lol

Mmmhhh..are you talking about Alex Pereira, right?
He would probably -300 favourite or so if this fight never happen
I dunno man. Oddmakers aren't in the business of losing money and Volkov looked pretty great in his last couple of fights. Poatan has been knocked out at MW and he looked human in his last fight with Rountree.

Volkov is a legit HW contender, and he is absolutely enormous. I'm not sure Pereira should be the favourite at all, let alone a huge favourite.

Didn't glover give Alex his bjj black belt after koing hill?
I mean wtf?
That must be one of those happy meal belts chael talked about.
I don't have a problem at all with awarding black belts after MMA victories, even fights with zero grappling. The black belt isn't being awarded for the performance in the fight, it's for the years and years of training leading up to it. The post-fight ritual presentation is just a way to formally and publicly acknowledge a huge personal achievement.

That said, I have no idea how legit his skills are. I'm sure he is very solid defensively, which TBH is really all he needs. If he has black belt level submission defense then he's fine.
Also if volkov has a ground game like you mention then that makes me want the fight more then.
I just wanna see Alex tested properly to see where his grapplings at if he's going have a crack at the goat.
Yeah I'm really interested to see him grapple, but I just don't think that Poatan and Volkov are ideal opponents for each other. Even after that questionable decision loss, Volkov is so close to a title shot, he probably needs one more win over a ranked HW.

Poatan needs to fight Ankalaev, and I don't care about any other matchup for him until he does. That fight has to happen. No more fucking about.

Well, I don't mind this.

The winner of Aspinall-Jones to face the winner of Pereira-Volkov. If Pereira beats Volkov, that'd set up a massive fight between him and likely Aspinall.

These are the biggest fights the UFC can make...so why not.

OK fight if there was no obvious fight at LHW.

There is possibly the most obvious matchup in 2025 MMA in LHW though.....

Perfect sense to who? Scott Coker? It's a stupid fight and a stupid idea, IDGAF where it came from.

Cmon perreira should just fight ankalaev, fights going to be fireworks who cares if non hardcore fans won't watch. They prob think Jake Paul is the best fighter

Waste of time. Pereira should get immediate HW titleshot or stay at LHW. Maybe if he lost his belt Volkov would be a warm up for HW title. Too much risk.
