Media Aspinall: I am ready to move on from Jones

Tom is playing it wrong

He should ignore Jon and try to defend his interim. This would put A LOT of pressure on the ufc

Exactly. Had Tom fought and won a fight since he started to sit out waiting for the duck, the pressure on Jones would have been huge. As it is, Jones is sitting back not giving much of a fuck.

As its been pointed out, if Tom went this route, as soon as he signs, Jon is going to come out of the woodwork and suddenly be ready to fight. Thats classic Jon Jones.

I know it sounds silly at first because Tom has been walking through everyone but the fact remains that he doesn't have a win as good as Gane.
Quick clarification question. When you say a win as good as Gane, do you mean that Gane's best win is better than Tom's best win, or that none of Tom's wins are the level of Gane himself?

If it's the former, that you're comparing Tom and Gane's best wins, I find that kind of silly. No one should be judged for a single win, because it's the act of continued winning that matters the most, which Tom does better than Gane. And even so, currently, it looks as if the best opponent either of them had is Volkov, who they both beat, but both of Gane's wins over him were decisions with the more recent one being controversial, whereas Tom tapped him in the first round.

If it's the latter, that Tom never beat someone like Gane, then that's still kind of silly. One minor point is again that most people believe Volkov beat Gane last time around, so they are arguably a comparable level, but the major point would be: the reason Tom has never fought anyone like Gane is because Gane has actively avoided and turned down fights with Tom. Multiple times.

No, the difference is Jon Jones went from getting some leniency to immediately taking another full year off.

If someone gets injured and is out for 1.5 years without defending their title, it's fair to expect them to have a 6 month turnaround after that. You don't get to go take another year off.
This.

It's like purposefully trying to split up Jones' bullshit into smaller, more "reasonable" points. First he was going to get his bonus "legacy" fight, but then he got injured, then we returned straight to the "bonus" defense despite the landscape changing, and now we're at sitting out for negotiations. Take any of those points one at a time and you can go "yeah but.." but you can't just stick that shit end to end and come out smiling.

By that logic, Dom didn't get stripped for being injured for 27 month. Why, he was ready to unify with Barao in February of 2012 when he had a small injury that only needed 5-6 months of recovery before he was back in camp. He fought later in September. See? Why couldn't the UFC have just waited?

Cuz we'd already been waiting for the division to start moving for a while, so they officially moved on without him and we got a real defending champ in the meantime

It does seem like Jon is gonna retire, I can't blame him tbh. I see Tom being champ for awhile, the guy is well rounded, young, and motivated. Wish we had more depth at HW but it is what it is.
Then stop fucking dicking around and relinquish the belt ffs. Jon makes a mess out of anything he touches. The most self centered narcissistic fighter to ever grace the UFC.

The shine has definitely worn off this fight. Even if they were to fight tomorrow, I don't think people would care half as much as they did a year ago.

As soon as Tom accepts a fight, all of a sudden Jon will defend his belt against Christian Morecraft. Shit's a fucking circus.
Daaaaamn, hadn't thought of World of Morecraft for ages!

I have a distinct memory of Morecraft warming up for the Struve fight (where they have a camera in the changing rooms) and he was doing shadow boxing, then did this ridiculously over the top gimpy smile to the camera to finish off a combo.

Tried to find a gif but no luck :(

Meh, I think it would still be huge. Unfortunately Jones was stringing all the doofus's along from the start, including the big goof.

They should announce it on a big PPV that Jones is being stripped of the belt for his decision to not fight Tom as the rightful challenger. Rub his nose in it. Release him from his contract if possible, let him ride off into the sunset.

Did Jones personally tell you that's his #?

I've heard $10m, then $30m...seems like it's a moving target.
The figure will change to $1 higher than UFC is willing to go at any particular time.

They offer 10m, Jones says he wants $10,000,001, etc etc etc

Tom's ready to give us unimaginable quantities of action. Jones is a lost cause. Bye Felicia.

It's time for UFC to tie this bag of dogshit off. DW needs to make an official statement about Jones being retired and stripped for refusing the fight. The time is right to refresh the HW division and inject it with some much needed excitement.

The UFC needs to sign a pile of new HW's. I don't care if they can't find top 5 caliber. Start focusing on the real HW champ in Tom Aspinall. Let's get this show rolling. They could keep Tom busy knocking out HW's every 3 months like Pereira.

It's called preferable treatment, it's complete utter bullshit is what it is.
All I’m saying is nothing will change. I mean go ahead do or not, only thing that will be different is the word undisputed when buffer calls it out. It’s still the same belt, still the same shit opponents and same money. Nothing will be different
