Media Arnold Allen deadlifts 440lbs

His dad was a pretty serious strongman I believe. I love his videos on youtube, seem like quality guys.

For the type of athletic performance needed in MMA, doing a 1 rep max is totally unnecessary and frankly very silly given the risk of injury (which can be even career threatening if severely affecting the lumbar spine).

Much better to work in the 5-15 reps range, without a belt to fully engage the core, keeping rest breaks at a minimum, perhaps forcing a greater range of motion (for example by standing on a step).

is that why he's a world class athlete and you're posting on sherdog? Good god the confidence that you guys speak with boggles my fucking mind. His dad was a high level strength athlete and he's in the UFC, but you guys CLEARLY are much more knowledgeable about S&C than them eh?

Was expecting bad form, but was pleasantly surprised.

Excellent strength considering his size.

I remember that post-fight interview after he beat Mads Burnell when he went on a rant about all the steroids that has dad used to take.

They're honestly hilarious. He has a few videos on youtube where they're lifting on a bunch of old rusty equipment and just shooting the shit and his dad is super open about the use and makes jokes about it. Worth a watch for sure.

Lol, you cant be serious about deadlifting being useless. It is one of the best compound lifts you can do. If you want to gain a lot of muscle in your upper and lower body and only do one compound lift the deadlift is arguably the best.

ever heard of kettlebell man makers ? Google it. If one day I can do only one exercise it will be the one

With a double overhand grip, no straps.

I’m impressed!

Alot of FWs these days really pushing the limits of 145lbs

Too bad that has nothing to do with fighting

Impressive for a UFC fighter but it's nothing compared to what most Sherdoggers can do.

I have not but will Google it. I know Turkish get ups are a really good kettlebell exercise though and working with kettlebells is a good way to increase strength through the full range of motion.

I do Turkish get up regularly. But man makers were specially made to train only one exercise I think. It's not even one exercise to be honest but a complex (combination of movements). See for yourself:

Using heavy bells is preferred for it. Basically it's a complex going like that : pushup - right row - pushup - left row - swing and clean - front squat - jerk, repeat until you die.

I was a successful pro athlete for 10 years and subsequently have been working in physical and mental performance at the highest level (Olympic athletes, Champions League football teams, world champion martial artists, etc) for almost 30 years … so yes, it’s a topic on which I speak fairly confidently … but of course you just had to gratuitously insult another’s - educated - opinion for no reason and without a better argument than “he’s an athlete, his father was an athlete, you for sure are not” …

Well, be more mindful with assumptions in the future.

Source: trust me bro.

I think most powerlifters I know use a belt, especially for training. I could be wrong but doesn't it help for preventing abdominal years and hernias a lot?

It really depends on what percentage of your max you're doing.

When I took powerlifting way more seriously i wouldn't wear the belt unless i was lifting 85% or more of my max, or I was already exhausted. When youre pre exhausted its a lot easier to break form and hurt yourself.
