Media Arnold Allen deadlifts 440lbs

That’s a decent lift for his size, especially for all the other training he does. Deadlifts are great for mma imo, it’s the best core exercise, loads the hinge which should help with power, and it is the most “functional” movement. If done right they aren’t particularly dangerous

You would be better off trying to max reps at a weight like 205. Do it 50 times.... the guys that lift 1200 wouldn't be fond of that but it fits better with mma.

Now I swear I'm not trying to be a one upper or anything but..

Some years ago in my early 20s I had gotten a different weight lifting partner and I was showing him how to deadlift. I was pulling 315 and it was tough.

This guy was my age about 170lbs 5'10" well built and athletic. He had lifted weights plenty but never compound lifts shockingly. Long story short, he kept adding plates to the bar saying it didn't feel like enough till he got to 5 plates each side. The guy is dumb as dirt itself but had he known what kind of genetic gift he had he would've gotten far.

The guy eventually got to 200lbs abs eating mcdonalds almost daily. Ice cream Sunday's and all.

In my personal opinion Romanian Deadlifts have a lower risk with nearly the same amount of benefit.

That sounds like a good way to hurt your back to me. In my experience low reps and heavy weight are the least bothersome to me. Also a guy with a 1200 dl max would be able to do those 50 reps easy, and also have a higher max dl than the guy only doing the reps.

I get what you’re saying though, I just think it’s easy enough to get some decent numbers in the power lifts, which would be a good base to work your conditioning and work capacity off of. Just my experience in grappling.

It's not that impressive. Most guys who go to the gym 3 days a week are pulling this kind of weight

I benched 305 after a year of training in the gym

Most men who train semi seriously are deadlifting 405 and they aren't professional athletes

If he was doing 585 I would be impressed

I'm assuming most guys that can deaflift 1300 are 280+ and they will absolutely start gassing with sets of 50.

There’s a video of Eddie hall doing some CrossFit clean and jerk or press type thing and he set the record. So it’s possible. I’m also on your side though that work capacity is king and there is an eventual trade off with pursuing a higher 1rm with it affecting everything else

Post a video of your 305 bench press

Yeah but you're a hardcore Sherdogger bro, is normal to not be impressed by this shitty lift, we deadlifting 500's in our sleep and banging 10's on the daily.

Nah not me, I am even harder than you so 585 ain't shit brah, in any case IDGAF what he lifts, I would KO Allen stiff within a couple of secs in a real street fight of which I have had many.

Except for freak outliers you are absolutely correct.

I’ve seen many very strong athletes, guys able to squat 3x bodyweight, who would struggle to do 50 fast uninterrupted bodyweight squats due to “gassing”. Over a certain size/strength the trade-off suddenly becomes extreme, except for the few with rare genetics and/or perfect holistic training.
