American scolastic folkstyle wrestling = a dying sport

the best thing America can do to increase their success at International wrestling is 2 relegate folkstyle to the Dustbin of history and solely practice on freestyle and greco
You ignored the actual wrestling questions and the way exposure of cheaters changed historical results.

So are you condoning cheating? You did fight in that era. So understandable.

You don’t think that US wrestling would improve vastly even before radical structural changes if more states started pulling their weight population wise in producing prospects for the US?

If so it would seem you simply want rules that will help “you” rather than discussing anything and everything to help wrestling in the US.

Probably because America is receding into its own anus with pc SAFESPACE culture...

In fact you can see it right here on Sherdog

a combat athlete normally will stand their ground and defend themselves however I know of a certain someone who will Dash to the moderators and cry and complain about funny pics until the person they don't like gets a yellow card
(I even posted an except of a pm)

in those cases you can see even a combat athlete wrestling coach is in fact a PC safespace advocate and cries for his "sherdaddies" to protect him when the going gets tough

To your credit you keep it all about the sport and mostly leave personal insults out of it

this person actually mocked the genocide of my SouthAfrican family and i didn't even hit the report button because i am the kind of guy that holds my own

It's really a crying shame that the moderators don't do a little bit of research before they issued judgment, or perhaps they do and just pick their favorite

the one that bought his membership perhaps?

I really lost a ton of respect for this site in the process however

They will probably ban me for life any day now.... that's the way a founding father of MMA gets treated around here LOL

Meanwhile in Russia I bet if you complained about a guy posting funny pictures of you failing at the sport you profess expertise in they would come to your house and beat you with sticks

That is probably why you see those Russian kids hitting world-class back arches while our kids cry about a stubbed toe

Ignoring your usual hyperbole. And continual victimhood. Eye roll

I have talked about sports. Your response was a general statement that didn’t address the question(s)

ALL of my talk about the south has been about actual on paper verifiable results or lack thereof. As well as having coached there and knowing the quality coaches. You kept making it more.

It is perfectly acceptable to ask what can be done to get an entire section of the country to pull its weight to help US wrestling.

Cool I’ll choose to believe you don’t condone them. Does not change the fact that you are conveniently ignoring how radically it has already changed historical results.

I'm not sure your response was serious as its laden with tangents.

What if someone says they see that kind of work on a regular basis...
None of those things are extraordinary.

Where and Who did you do SUMO with? I live in Hawaii.

Referencing the video and your post on it...
Why do you not see kids throwing each other and busting their backs sweating in the USA?
It's around imo.

I haven't had the opportunity to train Sumo.

You really should seek it out

I know there's some good gyms on Oahu

Its one of the most awesome grappling Sports on Earth

it is shocking how bad it hurts.. the impacts are phenomenal

In fact it's one of my favorite things to watch because the pushing creates such incredible throw and trip Dynamics

How can we make Greco more popular?
Since he won’t answer the wrestling questions.

It sounds simple but one of the number one ways to help Greco in the US is coaches education and recruitment. Young coaches, not older coaches who don’t understand how far the sport has come technique and training wise in the last 20 years.

Educate them, get them teaching and promoting it on the grassroots level. Get more kids liking it from doing it. Wrestling is the type of sport even a little experience helps you understand it vastly more. So getting more people doing it is a good way to create fans.

Grecos real problem is that even to many Greco people. It’s boring once you get to a certain level, outside a few once in a while throws. Its not me stating it, it’s senior level greco people.

I could go on. But most importantly, coaches should help wrestling by encouraging their athletes to be ambitious and wrestle beyond high school if they are willing to put in the work. Rather than using a wrestling team as a feeder to an mma gym

How can we make Greco more popular?

Well the best way to make a sport popular is to win at it...look at soccer, it's literally impossible to "make" this sport any more popular or exciting worldwide yet it doesn't draw anything in the United States because we don't win in it...

Thats way more important to popularity than changing the rules of the game

Practice international wrestling at the Scholastic level that way our athletes would be able to compete with other countries that do it at the Scholastic level

It not a "borring" sport and it has nothing to do with the AGE of the coach running the program

Offering young athletes an alternative to no grappling whatsoever is a very good thing also

there are very few wrestling programs in colleges in many states and MMA is a great alternative when there is no wrestling available... after all wrestling is a combat sport so the next step in Combat Sports is MMA

just depends if you wanted to take the next step to test your skills or not

Wrestling is receding and disappearing all over America while MMA continues to grow by leaps and bounds

There are 5 less high school programs in my old District than in 1990ties

Wrestling was much stronger when I was a coach in that District

They have also added at least 4 DI programs recently. Including in Kentucky.

Wrestling is growing in the northern Kentucky-Cincinnati area. In fact that area is carrying the torch for Kentucky. As well as producing it’s only results worth mentioning.

Lexington is doing good things as well.

The US doesn’t win in soccer because the best athletes hoop, play ball or play football growing up and “sometimes” play soccer.

It’s ok to admit you weren’t a good enough coach to put them in a position for wrestling after high school

I'm actually in contact with the guy that is running my old program and he tells me that four major programs have been dropped recently in the district...
Ballard
Eastern
J-Town and Kentucky Country Day have all dropped wrestling in the Louisville Kentucky area

It's really a terrible shame that the sport is dying before our very eyes...

There were no colleges in my area that offered wrestling so I don't know where you expected them to go?

Once again I started a freestyle program at the University of Louisville but nobody wanted to wrestle

they wanted to do MMA at my community center club instead...

Probably would have had better luck with Judo LOL

I said northern Kentucky-Cincinnati and Louisville area are growing. You keep ignoring what I’m actually saying then whine I don’t talk about wrestling.

Multiple schools are adding DI wrestling including Bellarmane or however you spell it in Louisville.

Women’s wrestling is growing and soon to be a ncaa sport...

The US has had its best quad so far in Decades and is building depth to the point some of our backups are top 5 in world behind world champs.

As I said before, and you so conveniently ignored. More and more cheaters being busted has already changed the historical results for the US in 2012.

People all over the country are working to halt the negative momentum that started in the early 2000s and growing the sport again. Including getting young coaches into the sport again.

They are doing real work instead of showing up at a school twice a week to recruit and occasionally “help out”.

Ok buddy let’s clear up something.
Irregardless of available opportunities at the time.. unless you have hidden results somewhere.
NONE of your athletes would have been recruited for NAIA much less a higher level. You can justify recruiting them all you want, it doesn’t change that fact.

Louisville ky is 5 hours from canada...
2 hrs to Indianapolis and 1.5 hrs to Cincinnati..

Its certainly not a "southern program" as you so often deride

four MAJOR programs in the Louisville metro area have dropped wrestling at the highschool level

Thats great news for Bellarmine but its a small expensive school and wont matter much in the big picture and its not adding a new team its absorbing st Catherines team...

plenty of my athletes would do just fine in college wrestling and a few have...you have NO IDEA who i coached and where they went...

young coaches are inexperienced and far less likely to have success...age is not a detriment in coaching...its an asset

tell me...what too old to be an effective coach?

45? 50?

i guess we should stop listening to this guy huh?

dan the man.jpg

you continue to deride age and "southerners"

thats some way to represent your program... wonder how your supervisors would feel about your conduct?

Unless you can pull out results with athletes you actually developed and weren’t just the twice a week assistant. I have not seen. My point stands.

Everyone I know has commented on how until the last few years. Less and less young coaches were going into and/or staying in coaching. During the 2000s, the amount of coaches under the age of 49 and older than 20 was shrinking. Eric Guerrero has even called it the “lost generation” of coaching. So getting more young coaches who will stay has been a priority. Stop being over sensitive.

My talk isn’t about “southerners”. It’s about the South’s results in wrestling. You keep making it more.

I have kept it about objective data and you are trying to make discussion of actual results PC flamebait
