American scolastic folkstyle wrestling = a dying sport

I'm going to try to get my son interested in greco, that video is representative of material done daily in many Judo clubs

I met Dan Hendersons coach but they're on a different island.

FINALLY folklstyle make a good rule change and allows athletes to compete in something besides a singlet!!!

could this help save the dying sport of wrestling?

Get Wrestling guys even if its just once a week itll help you BJJ game immensely especially inno Gi the same goes for Sambo wrestling will make you a better Sambo player.

I met them at onekahakaha

Some local guys, they had a club in orchidland

Japanese guy named Okano I think but we did a lot of Sumo and Judo mostly Japanese and local...I was one of 2 howlies

He had a lot of orchids

1983

I really learned to fight at Keaau middle

You ever play marbles??

We may have traded punches LOL??

..lost a few makapuus on Honolii
Ho brah! I was the token haole kid at Keaau middle school too! In early 2000s. Your my predecessor! Don't think any Sumo clubs are around anymore.

I love how you left out the matches I threw a kid and the match where I head pinched and gutted a kid multiple times. My defense was awful that tournament. I actually am still frustrated with the coach that had forced me to stop Sitting the corner a month before. So I had been trying to master a completely new style of defense for a month. T

There was other factors at play but I don’t give excuses. I was told what I need to fix by qualified coaches.

You only coached 2 years there? You implied much longer. And again, 70 schools. Over Half of which are subpar coached.

It’s a pity 3 of the 5 matches on there are from one of my worst tournaments. But that’s life. I never embellished or lied. Or omitted. I’m actually am surprised

And I did train some mma. My issue wasn’t being “tough” enough. I wasn’t athletic enough to avoid damage enough. I had accumulated a lot of concussions between fights, wrestling, and football. When the concussion got so bad I couldn’t go outside for 2.5 weeks.. I wasn’t really left with options.

Add in the fact my senior year I wrestled a National level schedule Only losing to Ohio multiple time placers and champs. Beat multiple place winners.. oh and a Kentucky state champ.( I beat several KY placers the year before).. on a “sprained ankle that turned it to be broken. Didn’t find out toll after season

Walked onto a DI team and earned a scholarship.

Suffered a lis franc fracture in middle of a match. Still finished.. and won the match

Wrestled 6 weeks on a torn ACL. Went 8-2. Including winning my first college open.. In Kentucky actually. I’m not worried about your opinion on my toughness. Considering by any realistic measure I shouldn’t have accomplished half of what I did. I’m not you. I don’t pick and choose when I want success to be relative. So I also don’t lie about what I did.

As far as technical knowledge and coaching. I wouldn’t have been given some of the chances I have been. I’m a far better coach than wrestler.

For all my faults and flaws, I haven’t misconstrued and ignored information or arguments. Haven’t been two faced. And I’m actually doing something to try and make kids tougher better men. I also don’t make excuses for what I haven’t accomplished yet as a coach. I also don’t exaggerate what I’ve done.

Btw if I had taken the Hardin County job. I would have been disappointed with anything less than 7 state qualifiers by year 2. It’s Kentucky. To get them to state. I would only have to get them in top the 20 percent vs the top 5% in a place like Ohio. Any other stare but Kentucky or Arkansas you might have a point. But considering facts. Nah

Ahh, I respect anyone who will get down and dirty and not just talk about it, and it was a pretty entertaining match.....but seriously....didn't you get wise to the ankle pick at some point?

BIG TIME!!

nothing like wrestling to FORCE action

without the lapel any grip can be broken and that forces a more athletic cardio scramble scenario

Just remember turning your back can be fatal [terrible wrestling habit for mma submission crossover]

just put leg in HARDCORE to help your partners learn not to turn their backs

banning fig 4 rides was a TRAGIC decision that reduced wrestling value as a combat sport

the consistent fiddling with the rules trying to make the sport more "exciting" is foolish

ARE YOU SERIOUS!!!

That's awesome

I learned a lot of MMA skills at Keaau middle school!!

I met my Judo/Sumo coach at onekahakaha, they had a farm in orchidland

Are you seeing it adopted??
Correction. Over 2 years ago. Yes, some places more than others. Main issue is cost. They cost more than singlets. My team only wears them and I know coaches who are ordering them as funding allows

It's a huge issue in the sport I can't believe it took so long to finally get adopted and implemented

... I can't believe it

American wrestling finally did something smart

Now if we switch to freestyle (modified for pre college) we might be able to save the sport

It's obvious that folk-style has been slowly adopting more and more freestyle rules...getting smarter

what about push-outs?

always thought they should use Sumo rules to tie-break

Literally any touch of the mat besides the soles of your feet or one step out of the circle and you lose in OT

I talked about the 2-piece and all of this awhile ago.. you’re either out of the loop or just trying to keep the thread alive for attention

You said it was a "barrier to entry" regurgitating the same line they said on YouTube

What about push outs and sumo tie breakers for folk??

You enjoy the world championship?

Maybe if Jordan had wrestled more freestyle he be better at pushouts??

Looks like I'm going to have to bump my Americans can't win international wrestling thread with this one....

Jordan Burroughs has been one of the best freestyle wrestlers in the entire world.. including on the edge with push outs since 2011.. he’s actually been one of the best at securing and avoiding pushing push outs. His close loss to a very good opponent at his age doesn’t make your point. It makes you look stupid or.. out of the loop.
