Rumored Alex Pereira Fighting in March?; Rogan Says Poatan using Ramadan return date to mess w/ Ankalaev

#2 Jiri is fighting #3 Jamahal Hill

#4 Jan Blachowicz is fighting #6 Carlos Ulberg

#5 Rakic lost to #1 Magomed Anklaev

#7 Khalil Rountree lost to Champion Alex in October

#8 Nikita Krylov is available
Krylov it is.

Someone made a thread asking why krylov didn't get it when round tree did but he had that fight with the that one russian who recently popped so why the hell not?

Could also go with hill jiri winner if someone comes out unscathed.

All I’m seeing is a lot of fans being perfectly ok with the #1 contender not getting the next shot and excusing it because they like the champion. Somebody like Jones does this people would be absolutely trashing him.
It's nothing like that at all. You can give a man a contract but you can't make a man fight. If it means waiting til almost june, I'd rather see a title fight in march.

And you're right, people wouldn't give Jones a break they never do anyway, even when he moves up a weight class and fights the rightful number 1 contender. Still call it a cherry pick. So it's not like Jones has ever been treated fairly anyways. Poatan in this situation is being treated fairly

I strongly disagree. I’d rather wait a minuscule 3 months than have an undeserving challenger in a far less intriguing title fight. That’s like saying you’d rather have Jones vs. Sergei Spivak than wait 3 months for the Aspinall fight. I want to see the best fights and this one has already been delayed far too long already.

yeah but we dont know the whole situation right? Im just not sure why Poatan isn't allowed to advance his career at all. Not sure why he should have to wait for anakalev.

Also you have to recall, we dont know what the UFC's Plans are for PPV post march. Maybe the card in may is planned for Spain and illa to fight Mosvar or something.

you're saying it'll be some less intriguing title fight. Why does it have to be a title fight? maybe they just do Gane vs Poatan to test the HW waters like silva did when he had no one to fight and fought griffen.

Spivak isn't a fair comparision either because there are lots of guys between that could work. And I'll be honest, If ulberg wins his next fight he leap frogs anakalev with better recent wins. *shrug*

fighting once every 9 months while taking ramadan off is hurting this guys career. but he keeps doing it.

I just feel like that is the only fight to make and it’s the only fight that makes sense. Waiting a couple months is not going to derail Pereira’s career. Getting the fight that makes senses together should be priority in my opinion, not random title or vanity fights. You’re entitled to your opinion, but we’re just not going to agree on this.

yeah i agree with this, but you're blaming poatan. you are saying that poatan is getting a "pass" from fans posting here today but you know it's not him, you KNOW it's the UFC that is doing this.

Poatan and Anakalev both fought in the same month last year... for no real reason. Could have done rakic vs roundtree and Poatan vs ankalev. both would be more sensible fights. Ever wonder why they didn't do it?

Fair points, I’ve said for a long time it’s the promotion more so. But there are lots of hypocritical fans in here which is what I mean. Lots of indifference and defending it when we know this wouldn’t be the case if the champion wasn’t popular and/or the challenger wasn’t widely disliked. It’s excusing ducking whether you want to lay the blame on Pereira or the promotion.

yeah but why shouldn't SOME of the blame be on ankalev? It's not like he's done absolutely everything right. He was given a title fight and it went to a draw and he threw a hissy fit over it. He could have rebounded quick with the win over walker but that got delayed some more via a DQ (again this was anakalevs fault). He already turned down the title fight once, UFC 300, And we know promotions LOVE it when you do that. then his fight with rakic was pretty mild and didn't send much a statement.

So it's not as if he's done everything right and is getting completely shafted. he's made a few missteps and is getting just the tip.

it's a merit-based sport and the champion fights the best contenders, Anakalev is the clear #1 contender, you have it backward if you think the champion should be able to fight someone other than the #1 contender. That khalil fight was completely pointless and only showed that alex struggled with the #8 ranked guy. There is no reason why he can't wait 1-2 months to fight who deserves the TS. You're probably gonna reply and say ankalaev doesn't get to dictate the terms but that doesn't answer the question of why a champion should be allowed to fight someone other than the #1 contender
Lmao prize fighting is not a merit based sport. Maybe it loosely wears that facade when it fits, but come on dude. You just start watching last week?

Do what exactly?

What is Alex doing?

Fighting, making money?

Some is fair, but a Quick Look around this thread and many like it shows you a large portion, probably the majority, place it entirely on Ankalaev.

Which isn't fair. However IMO, It is ZERO percent on poatan as he has been the most active champion since winning his title and has the most title defenses of any current champion. for him to take another fight other than ankalaev, can we really call that a fault of his? A champion who ACTUALLY WANTS TO STAY ACTIVE and we're going to hold it against them?

I dunno man. It's one of those times where you dont look a gift horse in the mouth. Gotta be glad there is a champ that will defend 3x a year.

Assuming this source is true, then that's suspicious that Pereira fights in the 1 month that ramadan is observed, could have easily fought in April and got the Ankalaev fight over with.
I'm about 100% sure this is by the UFC and another one of their shit tactics to fuck over fighters.

I have my own personal theory regarding why this is happening.

It's schizoid shit I can't prove, but I'll say it to you here and now because you're asking.

It's the UFC and Ali Abdel Aziz washing each others hands.

I believe stuff like this happens.

"Dana, you book all the top LW's (Gaethje, Charles and Armen) and Leave islam to defend against BSD\dustin winner. this fight is better for us as Poirier is a bigger draw than those others. you do this, And We'll have Anakalev fight someone else in Abu Dhabi. You keep your champ, I keep mine" -Ali Abdel-Aziz
