Retiring with the Title/Belt is Unacceptable. ( Unless medical reasons of course )

This thread is probably 12 pages of the TS getting shit on

And it's well deserved

I'm not sure I understand your logic.

If Derek Jeter bats 225 this year, does that erase getting 3,000 hits, being a perennial all star and winning multiple championships?

I don't believe that when a fighter loses a few fights at the end of his career while being past his prime (some times way past) it takes away from their accomplishments. Why do you think it does?

Cause that's part of their legacy too, their career.

Being undefeated for 14 fights in a row and then losing 6/8 ends up giving you a shitty record that doesn't compare well to other contenders for GOAT and P4P status.

Look at Bones for example. If he's undefeated for the next 2 years(assuming) he will break Anderson's and GSP's records for total ufc wins,no of title defenses, consecutive defenses, etc.

And of course no of losses he's had.

If Bones decides to stick around after that, start losing and drops lot of fights, etc what claim would he have to GOAT status.

It's your entire career that counts and has to hold up to introspection not just the dominant part of your career.

I would never call anybody who decides to retire from a sport where the sole objective is to physically destroy your opponent a "little bitch". Especially someone like GSP who has been doing it as long as he has.

Plus if a guy doesn't want to fight, I don't want to see them fight. Their career depends on their desire and reason for fighting, not mine. I give respect to GSP for having the balls to say no to Dana and do what he thinks is best for him.

Yeah but they were never the greatest of all time were they?

And I don't know know some of the older boxers and their circumstances. I do know Ali and Tyson though and that's my two for boxing.

Same for Fedor, Anderson and BJ Penn.

I should go do something enjoyable.

You "retiring" from this thread?

Because he quit. We don't know what he could have done and how far he could have went.

Why do I have to explain this common sense to you fucking crazies. I'm out of here.

He MAY have retired.

And to everyone who has paid attention, he has accomplished quite a lot in MMA. We have enough to judge him, lol.

And if his heart isn't in it and he is obviously getting older, it's pretty safe to assume his best days are behind him.

But you are changing that up now, aren't you? You want him to fight until he loses. Now it's "we don't know what he could have done and how far he could have went"? Ok dude.

I'd leave too if I were you. Pretty embarrassing really.

Boxing's Rocky Marciano retired at 32 years old and undefeated champ.

Nobody says he should have kept fighting and he is very comparable to Georges. In about 12 years of fighting he was 8-4 as an amateur and 49-0 as a pro. If anything his decision to leave on top makes him a legend. People never talk about the four fights he lost as an amateur.

Sadly, Rocky died one day before his 46th birthday in a plane crash. He had only 14 years to enjoy his well earned riches. Life is short, once you have enough money from fighting, get out because the scumbags who run fighting don't give a shit about fighters.

True, owe yeah and they run casino's hahah.

But I don't know if that was ever GSP's motivation for fighting, he wanted to be the best, the money comes with that of course.

TS, its obvious that Bushido is important to you, so I would advise you to commit e-seppoku as you have completely disgraced your name with this dishonourable thread

Umm yes. They were. This one's been pointed out multiple times.

And he's on every "all-time greats" list near the top.

Hendricks was pissed GSP retired.

Of course he's saying this now.

If Hendricks really is pissed because he has some need to take the title from GSP, not just take the title in general, then he's a moron. As a fighter with title aspirations, his only goal should be to get that belt. It shouldn't matter at all how he gets it or who he gets it from.

But you didn't understand it before apparently. I had to explain it to you. yeah I'm 10 years old and have no idea what I'm talking about.

Your whole idea of a champ fighting until he loses because he owes it to the next guy (and the sport?) is so incredibly wrong. By the time a champ is ready to retire he has fought the best and has taken more damage than most, his ability maintain peak performance has diminished (a la...Roy jones, George foreman, Pac Man) ultimately tarnishing their legacy. You don't sound 10, you sound 15.

GSP will likely be back in a year or two, Silva should retire and stay retired.

You're an idiot.

Maybe every fighter should retire after 5 ko's in a row?

HE was in a war with Johny, he should take a break if he needs it.

He was when he heard about it yes. I heard it from Dana I think.

I understand why, none of you guy's do evidently.

It's not even that bad cause he got the better of GSP that night anyways.

If Machida retired after his first fight with Shogun............. I would have a serious disdain. Machida is one of my fav's these days.

I don't hate on fighters for losing. You fight to compete, to challenge yourself and others. You win or you lose.

Are you actually holding Ali's and Tyson's latter careers as examples of how it should be done??

Thanks for answering my earlier question... got it.
