Signings/Scouting WMMA Discussion #29

The UFC should have made Virna vs. Weili for UFC 309 because that card is pretty trash for a UFC card, much less a card in New York City. It won't happen though so this fight needs to happen at UFC 311. Suarez can fight someone else in the interim. I know this is a bit harsh but she will be 34 before she fights again. If I'm the UFC if I can't get her booked by International Fight Week 2025 and have her actually fight there should be considerable talk about releasing her.

She has tremendous upside but she always withdraws from fights so you are guaranteed an interim champion leaving the division in flux if she ever became the undisputed champion.
If Suarez ever becomes champion (and that’s a big if) they better have the interim championship already booked for the month after. That way they can keep a strawweight title in rotation

Not deep enough to currently have an atomweight division

Infinitely deeper than 145 which they created for one person. Funny how the UFC changes shit as it suits them. Also, some women could drop from 115 and would jump at the opportunity. Since several of them are in the UFC already they have a certain amount of name recognition.

The past few years I've enjoyed doing a weekly viewing guide here most weeks. I started doing it because I wanted to contribute something positive to this cool thread.

Those viewing posts were getting less comprehensive lately as family matters have demanded more time.

Our friend @werepig agreed to continue the tradition. Thank you so much!

Of course it is all about the money. They are fight promoters. I was pointing out his utter hypocrisy and utter lack of integrity.
And I was pointinf out it s not hypocrisy.
If there were commercial atomweights like Cyborg they would have had the division already.

At least they say they are looking at possibilities down the line. Maybe they'll revisit after a new broadcasting deal is signed. Modernizing the PPV structure which is overpriced for the North American market could open the possibility of a new division. They need new stars. I hope they continue with ESPN+.

They don't need a star on the level of Valentina to start a new division. Maynard probably knows atomweight fights in other promotions are often exciting. Posters in the play by discussions for other organizations sometimes even say they don't usually like WMMA but they enjoyed watching those particular fights.

I think the Atomweight division is only a matter of time (not if, but when). How long does Bantamweight actually have left with anyone of high note? This is a sad truth but no one in the top 15 of Women's Bantamweight will be in their 20's by the end of 2024. The vast majority of the division are in their mid-30's.

It's time to be honest and kill the divisions above 125 pounds. Most women the UFC will scout will likely be below 135 pounds regularly and it opens the UFC up to more women in the Asia and Latin America markets.

So you have access to the financials of the UFC? This way you can evaluate how much they spent versus their profit every time she was on a card?
