Signings/Scouting WMMA Discussion #29

Weekend picks:

Martinez. It's been a while since she's had a victory but she won round 2 vs. Elise Reed in her last fight. She's still slightly favored over Ardelean who lost a split to Shauna Bannon in her last fight.

Reed. Both Reed and Penne started as atomweights. Close call but I'll pick Reed on movement.

Edwards. She missed weight again (3 pounts) and is being fined a percentage of her purse. Third time it's happened in the UFC. Vidal agreed to take the fight.

In PFL rooting for Pacheco & picking her by close decision over Cyborg.

Judging by the PBP on the main page, round one of Reed vs Penne sounded fun. Looking forward to watching

Guys, Cyborg vs Pacheco was incredible for three rounds. This was the first time I've seen The Borg having to fight off her back, also the first time she was visibly hesitant to strike with an opponent.

The last two rounds were fought at a much slower pace and weren't nearly as intense as the first three. Clear 49-46 for Cyborg, but Pacheco gave her the toughest fight of her career besides Nunes. This was arguably the best Women's Featherweight fight in WMMA history.

Very cool and welcome here.

Any idea when or where the entire fight may be available legally and free?

Rare sweep on ufc picks this week.

Joselyne Edwards vs. Tamires Vidal. Bad blood between the two, partially from Edwards coming in 3 pounds over. Enjoyed when they pointed at the ground and duked it out. That worked to Edwards' advantage. Edwards finished with the RNC late in the final round. She has missed weight 3 times. I like her as a fighter. But holy crap her issues outside the octagon must be immediately addressed.

Jessica Penne vs. Elise Reed. Penne made it a scrap in round one and then Reed dominated with her best performance so far. Reed has sharpened her takedown defense. She was going for the KO but Penne toughed it out to the end.

Alice Ardelean vs. Melissa Martinez. Matinez won the decision and it was strange. Melly darted side to side getting in a few shots. Not sure what Ardelean did.

Leaving it to more seasoned observers here for higher quality breakdowns, which I always enjoy.

Tatiana Suarez’s path to Ultimate Fighting Championship gold has hit another roadblock.

The strawweight contender has reportedly suffered an undisclosed injury and has been forced to withdraw from a proposed clash against Virna Jandiroba at UFC 310on Dec. 7. Multiple outlets confirmed the news following an initial report from MMA Melotto. It is currently unknown if Jandiroba will remain on the card against a replacement opponent.

Suarez and Janiroba were previously booked to square off in August 2023 before the Brazilian suffered a knee injury and pulled out of the fight. Suarez would remain on the UFC on ESPN 50 card, where she submitted ex-strawweight queen Jessica Andrade in the second round of their encounter. The 33-year-old Milennia MMA representative was supposed to return to action against Amanda Lemos at UFC 298 in February, but Suarez withdrew from that contest due to what she described as a “minor setback.”

When healthy, Suarez is regarded as one of the top contenders in the UFC at 115 pounds. She is undefeated in seven Octagon appearances, with other notable triumphs over the likes of Carla Esparza, Alexa Grasso and Nina Nunes.

A former Invicta Fighting Championships title holder, the 36-year-old Jandiroba has been victorious in her last four promtional outings. Most recently, she scored a second-round submission victory against Amanda Lemos in the UFC on ESPN 60 headliner on July 20.

UFC 310 takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and is headlined by a welterweight championship clash between Belal Muhammad and Shavkat Rakhmonov.

This ought to make @Xuh happy: Daniela Hernandez is back next month, moving up to strawweight for Lux FL in her native Mexico

mmm.... I'm not sure I'm familiar with her actually. Is she someone I've shilled for before? I've forgotten if so 😁

....well, I'm cheering for her now, then. Is she a wrestler? FUCK YEAH DANIELA! FUCK THIS BITCH UP!! RAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRR
<{JustBleed}><HanaKimura01>
does she have any MERCH so I can REPRESENT my new HERO and role-model 24/7? 🤔

Yeah, she used to wrestle for the Mexican national team

The UFC should have made Virna vs. Weili for UFC 309 because that card is pretty trash for a UFC card, much less a card in New York City. It won't happen though so this fight needs to happen at UFC 311. Suarez can fight someone else in the interim. I know this is a bit harsh but she will be 34 before she fights again. If I'm the UFC if I can't get her booked by International Fight Week 2025 and have her actually fight there should be considerable talk about releasing her.

She has tremendous upside but she always withdraws from fights so you are guaranteed an interim champion leaving the division in flux if she ever became the undisputed champion.
