The weekend’s biggest upset happened this morning:

Si-Yoon Park defeated Saori Oshima via unanimous decision in an Atomweight title bout at Deep bs Black Combat 2/Deep 115/Black Combat 8. Both the Deep Jewels and Black Combat Atomweight title were on the line. All five(!) judges saw it for Park, who moves to 5-3. Oshima falls to 12-4
 
I think Loopy moving to Lobo Gym is already paying off. Her striking looked crisp and her fundamentals were sound. I think that was a bigger beatdown than the Carnelossi fight

I like how many 'Rondas' are running around in WMMA these days, especially Brazil (maybe one day we will get the ultimate fusion, 'Ronda Pitbull'). We have another Ronda ('Rondinha' to be precise) on tonight's Cantenders, the second of the series even. She doesn't have a Judo style or anything but I guess the reason for her nickname is obvious enough

I've read an awful lot of interviews over the years where fighters said Rousey was what inspired them to start doing MMA. (I wonder if there are (m)any who say Nunes, incidentally).
Teresza Bleda and Irena Aleekseva are two Rondas in the UFC (I think Teresza changed her nickname though?)

I think she's gonna get submitted though (fighting a BJJ world champ) but young enough to come back eventually.

If anyone has similar difficulties please reach out to anyone anywhere any time. Online or off. Keep the appropriate numbers handy for suicide prevention in your area.
 
Some random thoughts:

  • If UFC wants to lure Nunes back, Val vs Pena for WBW belt will be the best shot. Nunes would hate to see either of them holding belt. LOL
  • What would happen if Val fought Ronda years ago? Though Val is a much better grappler then Holm, would she resist the urge to do a arm & head throw?
  • It seems to me that Rose is out of options now. She doesn't have the size to fight elite WFLW fighters, and she can no longer duck grapplers at WSW. I think Zhang has the skill to wrestle-fuck Rose now.

- nah i reckon amanda (and nina) are enjoying retirement too much to ever step back into the octagon! good for them
- old val would keep it on the feet against ronda and circle away, avoiding takedowns. val would be very cautious against a specialist like ronda
- pretty sure rose isn't going back to SW - but now she knows that she can't wing flw like andrade, rose has gotta bulk up (think alexa's own transition from sw to flw)
