With 3 Ls in a row, is sherdog ready to accept Yan as overrated?

No, it's 3. He beat Sandhagen after the first Aljo fight. Then he lost 3 in a row including this one. Aljo, O'Malley, Merab.
Oh. My bad. That sandhagen fight was really good too. Not sure why that didn't jump out in the timeline for me.

Dude got a title shot by beating old man Faber and old man Rivera, got his belt by beating old man Aldo, he is good but he is not even close to the best BW in the UFC like the promotion and the fans were selling him, he didn't face anyone elite on their prime during his rise.
Old man Aldo lol

Aldo was even older when Merab had to wall & stall him to a competitive decision victory...

Yan has just had a weird ass career tbh. People talk as if momentum isn't a thing in combat sports.

When he was dominating Sterling in the first fight he had all the confidence and swagger in the world. Following the DQ loss and SD loss to Sterling and a SD loss to O'Malley, he seems to be doubting himself a lot more and Merab just killed him off completely.

He'll go down in history as a great "what if".

He should have went to a sports psychologist years ago. When your gimmick is "needing a few rounds to warm up and then hoping for a finish", you cannot hope to have consistent success at the top of the division. Very skilled fighter obviously but gets in his own way/relies on excuses instead of coming back hungrier (going the Gustaffson/Rockhold route).

He's just one more example of many fighters who after reaching the top tumble down the hill. There are so many fighters that this happens to.

He looks better than he is.

It's easy to be fooled because he does so much technically right.

Unfortunately, he's simply overrated.

I find bis personality annoying, but to call him overrated is stupid. He was arguably undefeated until today where his leg gave out in the second round which did him no favors. You can call him unlucky more than anything. But he is a great fighter skill-wise, capable of being champion. Will he be again? I don’t know but I have more than enough info to form this opinion based on everything he did.

And his hunger seem to be passing him by which is easy to happen in situations he was in (lot of judges decisions and DQ and all that…).

You should show gratitude when you speak about your former bantamweight champion.

Dude, he outlanded Correy for five rounds and didn't shed a single drop of blood. He still has a few more years left of his prime and can bounce back from this skid; I really think that this performance was partially due to Yan's mentality since he was 1-3 in his last five

It is very very hard to stay at the top of that mountain.

A) Once you reach the pinnacle everyone is gunning for you and you face nothing but killers

B) You start getting paid more so forget about easy matchups

C) you start headlining so 5 round fights plus training camps for 5 round fights equals a lot more milage accumulating quickly

D) there is film footage readily available on you and everyone studies and prepares for you

E) more media obligations and distractions, more pressure

Yan's leg gave out because Merab was kicking it alot

Pure skill from Merab

If Yan can't strike against Merab because the "threat of the takedown" then he isn't that good of a MMA striker

He's really good, I had him winning against Sean (not sterling tho). He ran into some hard matchups and people made him invincible because he was a great fighter with an entertaining style. Oh yeah and a boxing background, fans seem really drawn to boxing in MMA.

I would still say he is very good and losing a few in the most stacked division doesn't really hurt that much.

Yan is Cody Garbrandt. Change my mind.

Loses a couple of fights to good fighters Yan sucks he had an easy road to the title he never really beat anyone in they're prime etc never change sherdog
