Cory Sandhagen is extremely overrated

He cannot beat any of the top guys. He lost to Aljo, he lost to Yan, he lost to Umar

You can argue he win the TJ fight but TJ was coming off a 2 year layoff, dealing with arm injuries, tore his knee in the first round and cory still made it close enough for the judges to give TJ the win

The only guys he beats are guys who have been whooped much worse by the other top contenders.

Vera got completely outclassed against O’Malley and got dropped by Figgy. Cory took him to a boring decision where he never committed to any of his strikes

Font was getting bobbed around by Aldo, Figgy AND vera. Sandhagen couldn’t do anything to him, yes he was injured but that’s no excuse for a win based entirely off control time.

Lost the first two rounds against song and only started to win as song lost more and more blood. Yan throughly outclassed song with a torn groin and meniscus from the very first minute

Plus he in my humble opinion got gifted a decision win against a 5 foot 3 lineker. Argue about the philosophy of when you call a fight a robbery all you want, I didn’t agree with the decision so I’m counting it against him. Rocked and outgrappled by a guy he had 8 inches of height on

Can only knock out an old man like edgar who was on a 3 fight losing streak at 38, and moraes who was on a 2 fight losing streak, and would then lose another 6 fights in a row
He won the TJ fight. TJ 'tore' his knee in the first round because Cory was the one who did it. It didn't just magically tear.

TJ was 36 out of his prime coming off a 2 year PED suspension, whether he beat TJ or lost to him....the state THAT VERSION of TJ was in, if wasn't a good showing from Sandhagen. Goofy.

I don't know man. He's a highly skilled, technical fighter. If anything he's surprised me with how good he actually is. Not everyone can become champion. He's just a whisker away.

Same as Aldo since 2015, lost to every top fighter

If someone is in the top 5, I don't understand why it's laughable to think they can't be champion. He's in his prime and can certainly fight his way to a TS.

He's good. Top 5 sounds about right. People who expected him to be a champ were probably overrating him a bit indeed. He's been top 5 for like 5 years now and that seems to be his peak. Interestingly, I feel like his grappling has improved, yet his striking has degraded, leaving him at about the same spot in the division that he's been in for years.

What TS described is "this clearly top 10 fighter hasn't beaten a world champion yet"

Never change Sherdog.

The rest of the post I agree with. Sandhagen is a notch below the top guys. He comes up short in the big fights. I think it was an important detail about the fight to get right. There are guys that blow out a knee in there or some other injury in a freak way. This was an actual technique that did it.

Nah TJ won. And It should not have been close when you recall the knee tear in round 1

Because he's already lost to pretty much everyone above it at one point. TJ, aljo, Umar, Yan .. those were all top 5 fights he lost so it's hard to picture it now at one point it was easy. I think cejudo should be winnable for him

Aljo and TJ are no longer BW's, Yan was a great fight as was the Umar fight. He can easily fight his way to rematches with either and everyone would be alright with it. I don't mind the Cejudo matchup.

I disagree. He's elite. Just because you can't beat THE very best when given 1 opportunity doesn't mean you aren't one of THE best yourself.

I agree but hard to see him beating Umar or merab. Yan fight was a game of inches

I think he's a touch overrated, but not extremely.

He's still one of the better well rounded Mix martial artists at BW and will always be a tough test for anyone not in the top 5.

but IMO he is not champ material. He doesn't excel far enough in any 1 area. His fight IQ might be his strongest trait.

Oh and edgar was coming off a split win over Pedro Munhoz btw

Well said.

You need to be elite at one area of MMA to be the best, otherwise the other top guys can always out-skill you by forcing the fight to their area of dominance if you can’t force your game plan on them.
