Will Paddy be given the O'malley route?

'The O'Malley Route'?

Why isn't it the Khabib route? Or the Islam Makhachev route? The Gregor Gillespie route? The Giga Chikadze route? The Merab Dvalishvili route?

In the deepest divisions there's zero reason to throw an up-and-comer at the ranked fighters right away, so this supposed 'route' is much better travelled than jumping lightyears at a time up the rankings.

The only reason this is considered unique to Sean O'Malley is because Sean has caught your imagination and he's living your head.
What? of the unranked guys Islam was given Arman, Khabib faced Tibau in his second fight.
O'malley could be very well fighting guys in the top 10 but he still wants unranked cans, Moutinho was one of the most horrible matchups I've ever seen, dude had 0 UFC fights and was about to retire. Almeida was coming off 3 consecutive losses.
Fighter are doing everything to get ranked fights and Merab is offering himself in a platter, O'malley will still fight unranked easy matchups

He has to get tougher competition eventually otherwise the promotion will never get to cash in.

Conor eventually had to fight Aldo
PVZ eventually had to fight Rose

So what you’re saying isn’t making any sense
You just gave two examples of fighters who were heavily protected and at least the guys Conor beat were coming off wins.

To be fair, he was supposed to fight Louis Smolka who pulled out last minute... Was weird how so many fighters asked to jump in and they picked Moutinho of all people though.

Terrible analysis.

O'Malley has fought 6 times in the UFC, and has fought Marlon Vera (now ranked #8) and Raulian Paiva (ranked #15 at the time).

Islam Makhachev fought the non-ranked Arman Tsarukyan in his SEVENTH UFC fight (still not fighting ranked opponents).

There is no argument to be made that Islam was fighting ranked fighters before O'Malley, because it's simply a lie.

Not only that, but Islam took 4 years before he took on a fight you personally consider dangerous against Tsarukyan (not ranked), while O'Malley is already fighting ranked opponents after exactly 4 years.

O'Malley is AHEAD of Islam.

O'Malley has lost to the first legit ranked fighter in Chito. So right now he is just a bum.

I fear Pimblett is just hype because of the cringy personality and that Beatles haircut,
from what i've seen he's chinny but got heart...something O'Molly does not have(heart that is)

Chito wasn't ranked at the time, so O'Malley's only fight against ranked opposition is the win over Raulian Paiva.

AND THEN THEY FOUGHT REAL COMPETITION

You missed that part. Hell PVZ eventually got fed to Ribas

hahahaha hilarious how you consider what raulian was ranked at the time and what Vera is ranked NOW, it's pretty obvious that you're heavily biased and just adjusting the narrative as you go.
Raulian was a former flyweight and won his 135 debut by a very close majority decision.
They gave him Chito because he was unranked at the time they fought, again trying to protect O'malley, but O'malley got blasted.
If you don't think they're protecting O'malley you're incredibly naive. But at least O'malley has shown potential, Paddy still has a lot to improve.

I can see what's happening with O'Malley, but he's not the best example of a fighter being asked to face a certain level of competition.

O'Malley isn't crushing unranked cans any more than Islam Makhachev was, that's the point.

There are far better examples in the UFC of 'protected' fighters than O'Malley, and the fact everyone has to point to a last minute replacement as evidence the UFC is booking lopsided bouts is kinda silly.

Didn’t paddy pretty much say more or less that he wants jobber opponents for now… just like omally said

I’m fed up with that whole “build them up slowly, why waste a prospect by throwing them to the wolves too early” bullshit talk. Isn’t that what their fights on the regional scene were for?

Omally had his first mma fight almost 10 fuckin years ago(1st amateur fight In 2013). Paddy’s first amateur fight was over 10 years ago (mid 2011) n his first pro fight was in 2012. How much fuggn time do you need to “build up the young prospect slowly?”

If you’ve been doing the sport for 10ish years and you still say you “need time to develop more” then maybe you’re just trying to avoid being exposed at that point. You’re a veteran 10ish years into doing it, not a “young prospect that needs more time to develop more.” If you still only want can opponents 10ish years in then maybe you are the can(crusher/journeyman at best)

I'm behind this thought sir.
They should be ready by now ffs.

they want the MMA to become like boxing, hundreds of 300-0 cans

No kidding. Just go down the list and you can see that if you aren’t ready 10 years in then you probably never will be.

- fedor became pride heavyweight champ 3 years into his mma career.
- nog became pride champ 2 years into his career
-Anderson became ufc champ 9 years in but he took a few years off.
-randy won the ufc hw championship during his first year in the sport
-chuck won the ufc interim belt 5 years into his career.
-even Conor won his first ufc belt 7 years into his career
-bj Penn won his first ufc belt 3 years into his career
-stipe became ufc champ 6 years in
-Francis became ufc champ 5 years in
-gsp became ufc champ 4 years in
-aldo won the wec belt 5 years in

Etc etc. you can keep goin down the list. if you still want easy opponents 10ish years into your career like paddy and omally then it’s very apparent that you’ve probably reached your peak already and you want more can opponents just to avoid being exposed to keep the farce alive

That's crazy that his first fight was 10 years ago. I didn't know that because I can't stand the kid.
If MMA becomes like boxing it's going to ruin what we all love the most about it.
I can't see why they would do that.

Fuckin irks me the way they are slowly twisting an awesome sport into a circus....and not a fun one.

Sean is way more talented, Paddy is not that good...

Be fed unranked cans and washed up fighters to pad his record. Seems like that's the way to go now, I think the UFC has learned their lesson with Darren Till and some other prospects, Paddy is not a Conor or Khamzat but he's still young and they'll probably protect him and give him some easy fights to build him up.
The bad thing about it is that he has looked less promising than O'malley and is in a tougher division.
Bellator did it first with MVP
BUT actually UFC did it first with Huerta

Maybe because O'Malley has been in the UFC for over 4 years and hasn't even fought, much less beaten a ranked opponent? I'd say "right away" passed a long time ago for him.

Lets call it the only legit fighter he has fought then...The rest is cans, even Paiva
