Why is Cain Velasquez ranked above Demetrious Johnson in P4P rankings?

P4P arguments are like kids arguing over which pokemon is better.

These are the P4P rankings on the UFC website:

1 Jon Jones
2 Jose Aldo
3 Renan Barao
4 Cain Velasquez
5 Demetrious Johnson
6 Chris Weidman
7 Anderson Silva
8 Anthony Pettis
9 Johny Hendricks
10 Ronda Rousey

Am i the only one who thinks it is weird that Cain is ranked above DJ in the P4P rankings? Especially since smaller fighters have an advantage in the P4P rankings.

DJ has 3 defenses(1 Dec, 1 Sub and 1 KO), is undefeated at 125, has faced 4 different opponents in his 5 last fights while Cain has 2 defenses(2 TKO's), has lost at HW, has faced 2 different opponents in his last 5 fights.

So can anyone tell me why Cain should be ranked above DJ?

Cause he's a natural LHW wrecking bosses at HW and any other takers.........you're fucking stupid.

no, it's not "obviously" those guys. It seems as if you just picked the 3 lightest champions and assume their the most technical because of what rogan spews. Weidman is every bit the technician that those 3 guys are

No. He isnt even remotely close to proving that he is as skilled as those 3.

"Natural LWH."

Funny guy!

He may be light for a heavyweight. That doesn't make him a LHW. Not even close. The dude is 240 on fight night. He'd have to slim down quite a bit to make LHW. Not saying he couldn't do it but that doesn't really make him a "natural LHW"

He's unquestionably more skilled overall and would absolutely beat Cain if scaled to size.

You're telling me that lighter weight classes are more skilled, but you use the 140-170 range as evidence to back this up.

140-170 isn't 'smaller', it's approximately average(perhaps a little bit on the smaller side).

Anyways, there are exceptions to my bell curve line of thinking, I just think more of the outliers exist at HW than at 125 as of right now when it comes to those elite top 10 fighters.

You are right, there is a bell curve to any population and most adult males in fight shape will be around 5'9 or 5'10 weighing 140 pounds to 170 pounds (the average male from the 1850s and thus the BMI "ideal" was 155,) in fight shape and cutting weight that will make FW and LW the most stacked classes. Followed closely by WW though it seems more athletic guys get into fighting as WW seems the most deep ATM.

lmfao is this a joke? Of course he would. Mighty Mouse is a MUCH better striker than Cain.

They said that about JDS as well, look what happened. Being a better striker doesn't make you the most effective striker. Look at Brown/Mein, Mein is a better striker, but Brown is simply more effective with his.

The answer to the OP's question is simple math: An average of ratings by the journalists.

In reality, its because Cain murked JDS twice, and JDS is probably better vis-a-vis the rest of the HW division than Benavidez is the FW

yeah, when we're talking P4P, DJ is #2 in the world, only behind Aldo

p4p shouldn't always favor the smaller guy. if MM was 240 lbs, he wouldn't be so fast. pound for pound is exponentially more subjective compared to the regular rankings, which are already VERY SUBJECTIVE.

MM lost to Cruz, then dropped down and benefitted from the incompetence of judges in the first uncle creepy fight.

Cain went through all of his opponents like a chainsaw, was tkoed by JDS, and then has gone through all of his opponents since then like a chainsaw. Plus, he isn't a huge guy and he would beat any fighter in the world.

This, there is going to be a trade off of speed and quickness for mass and strength. That is true for a linebacker, and is true for an mma fighter. It is ridiculous to try to extrapolate the advantages of being smaller and faster and quicker when fantasizing about a smaller/lighter guy as a hw.

"All of his opponents."
