Why didn't the fighters get a cut?

Obviously the Fertitta Brothers and Dana got a fat cut from the selling of the UFC. They were the owners.
But now I hear that Joe Silva and the lawyers got a fat deal too, so they don't have to work for the of their life.
Dana said it himself.

Who else got a cut?

I know who didn't...the fighters who helped build the UFC - Randy Couture, Tito Ortiz, GSP, etc. ...none of them got a cut. But where would the UFC be without them?

And in addition to that Dana shits on them in public on a regular basis.
Because they had zero ownership in the UFC just like every other business in the world. When Amazon bought whole foods do you think the employees got a cut? How about when Disney bought fox? This is how business works.

Let's start with this: They're substitutable.

Now a question back to you: Were Randy Couture and Tito Ortiz substitutable?
Yes. Neither were huge draws and either could be replaced with any wrestler feed cans.

They were not smart enough to get a cut. This is how life works. You only get what (1) you are given by a superior, (2) you can negotiate or (3) you can take by force.

These are the 3 major ways of getting something that you don't have, and/or can't create.

Whatever you have, in this life, is exactly what you deserve. LOL

Tell that to the refugees who are being sold for $400 as slaves in Lybia. LOL

It was a good sports promotion just like the UFC since it promoted the sport of MMA

Sounds like you learned something today. So proud of you.

Tomorrow we'll teach you that McDonalds is not a burger ...now go to sleep, bubu.

Since those people didn't contribute anything...

Ok then. When you sell your house, do you give profits from the sale to the kid who cut your grass, or the guy who installed your roof, even though you already paid them the amount both parties agreed to?

This wasn't your argument.

It's a private company.

That was your argument.

A sports promotion is dealing in sports.

Your argument was that since it was a private company that it wasn't dealing in sports.

Backpedal some more.

And good job of avoiding the comparison between the sale of PRIDE and the UFC since it destroys your whiny argument about the fighters getting a cut.

I never said that UFC wasn't dealing in sports.

You said that UFC is an actual sport.

I hope you know how humans are created though.

sports promotion

thus sports

thank you

I'm reading your other points on this thread and agree with them entirely but I cannot understand where you're coming from with the "it's a sports promotion so it's a sport" talk?

Welcome to business. How much did the players get when the marlins were sold? The dodgers? Etc.

Doesn't work that way in sports.

when a team owner sells his team for profit, do the players get a cut?

No

Same deal here.

It's not like Bob Meyrowitz gave any of the fighters a cut when he sold the UFC to Zuffa.

Nor did PRIDE give anything to their fighters when they sold to the UFC.

Nor did Scott Coker give anything to their fighters when they sold to the UFC.

You said

This is not a sport or a league...this is a company that's been built in the past 15 years to where it is today,
and we could all see how much the fighters contributed.

MMA is a sport

UFC promotes MMA.

That was my point.

Just as football is a sport

the NFL promotes football.

You decided to get sidetracked on this tangent

And what I said about "Doesn't work that way in sports.

No"

Is still true

Tried making that point on the first page, but TS got sidetracked with his "UFC isn't a sport" tirade.

Fighters take cash not equity. The fighters could invest in a variety of ventures and even try to start their own business if they could organize. Some Companies offer equity benefits but many don’t. Seems unfair but how the system works. Many business fail and investors lose out.

Wasn't Joe Silva too?

He was also a shareholder, anyone who owned a stake in the company got their % payout.

You don't own any of the company then you didn't get anything.

1. No it's not.

2. You could've easily replaced the guys and hired another group of people to do the job. Why didn't the UFC simply replace GSP? I'm not sure most other guys could've get them 7 figure PPV numbers...like the guys who painted your house.

3. No I'm not arguing that. That's different topic.

1. Lol. I'm sure you have some point about how if it were a real sport Jon Fitch wouldn't have been cut or McGregor would be forced to fight Khabib or some such. Whether or not you approve of the way the promotion is run is irrelevant to this discussion.

2. Most low tier and mid tier fighters do seem easily replaceable. Not the stars though, which is why GSP is paid so much better than lesser fighters. He's still not an owner though, so why would he profit directly from the sale?

That's why i respect Conor for being smart enough to recognise this. His other behavior though, not a fan.

I made nothing up. I brought up exactly what was said.

If you are not acknowledging what you posted (when it is right there in black and white) you're going full retard.

And continue to ignore the points that destroy your arguments.

Just let's us know who went full retard . . .
