Why did GSP tap so fast against Matt Hughes?

Mental..

There was also speculation around renzo gsp Serra and Hughes and potentially working the fights because they all trained under henZo at some point and they made millions on bets

What does that have to do with this thread?

You're obviously a khabib nuthugger trying to talk shit about GSP, the trolling won't work on me GSP>KHABIB, don't reply to me cause I'm gonna block you now. Join date 2021 makes sense

I’d say he was a smart fighter but I don’t know if I’d characterize him as mentally tough.

Yeah, guys who go in front of the world, test themselves, become the best ever in their weight division and a two time champ probably don't have that much mental fortitude and toughness.

Imagine what GSP could have accomplished being mentally tough?

He was pretty green and hadn't been in trouble to that point in his career. When somebody as freakishly strong as Hughes grabs your arm and rips it back, a young, inexperienced fighter's instinct is to tapout from that sudden pain. He went on to beat Hughes twice, so what does it really matter??

Usually the arm does not break, but it is surprisingly simple do serious damage, quickly. The armbar attacks the elbow joint, when damage is done it usually happens by hyperextending the joint, then tearing it. This can happen quickly and can take months to rehabilitate.

Yeah, and something like that would kind of mess up a future stellar career including winning 2 UFC belts and defending one of them 9 times. I think GSP made the right choice. "Discretion is the better part of valor" as the old saying goes. That said, I realize the average Sherdogger, who's also 6'8" and 320 pounds with 6% body fat...wouldn't tap. But we can't all be average Sherdog keyboard warriors.

The sherdogger fears staying in the armbar longer than 2 seconds

GSP botched that one. If he pinched his knees together instead of spreading them he almost definitely would have finished that armbar

I'll never forget that night and some of the interviews Georges gave following week.
George was a deer in headlights- did NOT like getting punched in the face and wanted out .......

Following week ( something like this) " thank God we have referees " - or this is the reason- implying the danger/ damage that could happen.
Serra " camacho ed" gsp as pierre became best cage wrestler/ lay n prayer in history.

" Thee goat" ...lmfao. That label is reserved for an actual wrecking ball cage fighter . Gsp isnt top 5 .

1 god dam second left on the clock.

Why did GSP submit Matt Hughes in the second fight?
Because he's the better fighter! :)

Its still hard to snap the arm, dan hardy said thats why he held out in the arm bar against gsp because how hard it is to snap the arm

You forgot the part where Hardy said he has abnormally flexible joints and that makes him extremely hard to sub unless its a choke.
