Why can't you people admit Colby was taking over?

I don't know about taking over, but he was still very much still in it.
Cut stoppages suck but are a reality of the sport.
I'm not a Colby fan but I hate to see a fight stopped before it's over. It is what it is.

we don't talk about it because it doesn't matter. maybe he was taking over, but the fact is you can't "take over" a fight with half your face looking like Sloth from the Goonies. you have to end it because you're about to lose. it'd be a different story if he didn't eat every strike Buckley threw like DC trapped in an all you can eat Popeye's buffet.

Buckley was slowing tremendously due to lactic acid build up in his beach muscles.

Colby won round 3 and held him down for quite a while.

Colby was going to win 4 and 5 with cardio and wrestling.

ADMIT IT THAT COLBY HAD MOMENTUM AND WAS GOING TO WIN 4 AND 5.
Even if anyone was going to entertain that delusion, it doesn't matter because that cut was in a medically very dangerous spot and is probably one of the most called-for cut stoppages ever. So before we get to how bad Colby lost, can we address that he very much did lose?

Indeed, cut stoppage is a legitimate stoppage. Guy was bleeding like a pig too.

There are a lot of different degrees of response people are having about wanting to see Colby get knocked out and hey, I'm on that train too, but I'm surprised at how many posts I'm seeing seem to genuinely imply that they, in some way, think that fans can or should buy cuts as not true stoppages in some way. Stuff like, "Oh, shame he got to take this easy way out before we got a real finish." We did though.

Like, if I side kick your knee backwards so far, your body turns part raptor, it doesn't matter how much you want to limp along to continue. That shit stops. This is no different. Colby can not be allowed to continue in this instance. Buckley disabled him as an opponent, so the fight's over.

According to official stats, he was outstruck 3 to 1 in significant strikes, Buckley had a submission attempt, and Colby only had about 40 seconds more of control time which he did nothing with. Some people think this was a tide turning round lmao.
Colby may’ve very well been able to slightly edge R4 if he played it safe and protected his eye.

While I can’t see him winning the next round by actually “fighting,” he has been very good in the past at winning rounds on points.

While I don’t disagree, Bisping won and successfully defended with only one eye.

Colby would've had to lay on Buckley like never before to win the last two rounds.

People can think it unlikely he'd turn things around enough to win, but people dunking on Colby and others saying they'd have liked to see rounds 4-5 are actually just dunking on themselves. A 5 round fighter like Colby, with an opponent who's never done 5 rounds before like Buckley, obviously does favour Colby until proven otherwise by Buckley ACTUALLY being able to go 5 rounds.

I'm not exactly saying they're relieved the fight got stopped so they never had to worry about Colby coming back in rounds 4-5 if Buckley couldn't keep it up and having to deal with a potential Colby win, but it sure seems like it as it's otherwise unexplainable why they can't simply admit the obvious that ON PAPER rounds 4-5 favour Colby.

Well, rounds 4 and 5 really don't in this fight because Buckley was only getting stronger as the fight went on. Round 3 was his best round, he had no issues stopping Colbys TD attempts, and those TD were getting weaker. Not only that, Buckely was sprawling and ending up on top GNPing Colby. Buckley may not have gone 5 rounds, but he was showing no signs of slowing down while Colby visibly was.

Historically doesn't really mean much in this context when the fight itself shows otherwise. One guys was winning and getting stronger while the other was getting weaker.

That's why I said on paper
