I'm assuming that Strickland ducked RDR's challenge, and RDR asked the UFC for the highest ranked opponent that would agree to fight him.

RDR is either going to pop off and go on a crazy championship run like Alex Pereira did, or he's gonna get reality checked and be beaten by top 5 guys. He turns 35 this year so it's now or never. I think he's smart to take the biggest fights he can possibly take before he starts to physically decline.

I think this speaks more to the capabilities of RDR.

They were slow walking him when the reality is, he is as legit as they come.

That would be sensible if Strickland was willing to fight Whittaker. But I don't know if you've noticed, however every single time Whittaker is brought up as an opponent, Strickland says he's not interested. Could be coincidence due to Strickland wanting title shots.

But I agree Whittaker vs Strickland would make the most sense if both guys agree to fight each other.

If Rob isn’t shot then he can win this. Rob is technical enough to land some shots when RDR tries to enter the clinch. RDR is strong but he is slow on his feet.
