Media What's the best solution to minimize eye pokes?

Does Jim Miller have a valid point?

give the refs more power to point deduct. there is no reason to have open fingers near the opponents face. i would say even just putting your palm on the opponents face and framing off is a point deduction

if the fighter or corner argues it... another point deduction.

they can appeal after the match ( although this would mess with vegas payouts)

Just make it legal

In slap dangal, the fouler receive deep punishment yaar. It is point removal automatically, and if the victim quits before recovery such as Aspinall, the fouler receive his loss and forfeit next coin toss to opponent following.

In MMA dangal there unfortunately is no coin toss, so maybe change to position giving up the method to next opponent choosing for instance back hold, north south, hugging to cage, ground hug, 1st round only standing bang, etc..

One point each infraction, no free pass at fouls, its that simple.

They have the power already, they choose not to.

Many already have it right: Automatic point deduction. Just get instant replay, have the judges make sure the fighter is not faking it and also get the doc to check the eye as usual.

Instant point deduction would solve this mess clearly. Fighters would adapt quickly. They're shifty motherfuckers. You'd be surprised how quickly they'd learn.

"although this would mess with vegas payouts" I am starting to think its why they allow it in the first place, something not right about this whole predictable situation.

It takes effort to point the tips of your fingers downwards just because that movement isn't restricted by the glove doesn't make it natural. When you stick your hands and arms out it's natural to have your fingers pointing forwards, and sticking your arms out forwards is used in fighting all the time whether you have a boxing glove on or MMA glove.

So in a firefight where you are trying to avoid being KOd and want to post with your arm outwards in the middle of heat being thrown it's not going to be easy to focus on pointing those fingers downwards. Gane actually seemed to have his fingers pointed upwards pretty decently which is how they're told to keep them.

If you watch back at 3:10 of the round, Gane does the same egregious pawing, but his talons failed to get bite on Aspinalls skull, try and try again. We have prime LHW Jones to thank… this shit is a learned behavior. I’m guessing Cyril watched tape on Jones and realized going wolverine works until that referee warning comes.

Gus and DC started with the eye pokes only after fighting Jones, Miocic has been on both victim and perp.the DC landed on the “eye poke uppercut”, which resulted in losing his belt. Miocic exercised get backs, which was funny, now that Tom’s past the learning curve without losing his belt I would make Cereal wait, especially if it’s really damaged like a detached retina

They already have the power. First warning is in the locker room. There needs to be a culture change. Too many refs saying dumb shit like “don’t make me enforce the rules” or “don’t make me warn you again”. It’s embarrassing. Foul is a foul.

Jim Miller says a point and a portion of the purse as punishment. An automatic point deduction only, and 50% of fouls will probably stop. If you take away some purse too, eye pokes will end forever. The injured party - the victim of the foul - shouldn't have to fight the rest of the fight visually compromised.

3,000 purse deduction per eye poke for 3 round fight, 6,000 for 5 round and 12,000 for a title fight. On top of that automatic point deduction and this shit will stop happening. At the very least you’ll be able to know if it’s intentional or not but something has to give here.
