You just highlighted the FACT the rule was instituted for UFC Fight Night Edmonton, like I said. You claimed it was instituted for Jones v Miocic, which I've proven it wasn't.

I also pointed out that the rule was adopted in July (4 months before Jone v Miocic) & you just proved me right with your screen shot.

You claimed the UFC could (& did) have the rule changed for Jones. I correctly pointed out that if they wanted it changed for that reason, it would have been done 15 years earlier.

Here is the correct timeline:

July 2023: The fight against Miocic is first announced. therefore BEFORE ABC.

July 2024: ABC votes to remove the 12-6 score, (and Jon Jones can appeal his only UFC loss after the groundbreaking rule change).

November 2024: The fight actually takes place.

The UFC changed the rules aiming for two benefits for Jones:
1- to reset his loss,
2- to give him another weapon for the fight.

If you're in a fight and you're feeling fatigued, the last thing you want to do is clench your fist and burn out your forearms and shoulders. If you've done any sort of Kickboxing or Muay Thai, what Gane is doing is what anybody with training will do if they need to stop people attacking or moving forward with a post/long guard position but unfortunately this type of defense with mma gloves leads to eyepokes.

The UFC needs better gloves and not nerfing certain fighting styles.

This is a good point I hadn't really thought of, if we're serious about finding what actually works in real world martial arts, then perhaps we've all been looking at it completely wrong and eyepokes should in fact be made legal.

I don't know what can really be done as long as you have open finger gloves, which are a required for the grappling aspects of the sport. You can give stiffer penalties, but that won't stop accidental eye pokes, which most of them are.
