What Would It Take For You To Believe That The UFC is Protecting Poatan from Ankalaev?

Is the UFC protecting Poatan???

  • Yes. It’s super obvious. Dana is protecting his cash cow

Didn't vote because your poll options suck.

Pereira has accepted 2 fights against Ank and Ank has declined both fights.

It would take a first hand admission from Pereira saying he doesn't want to fight Ankaleav before I believe that he is ducking.
It's not so much as Alex ducking the fight as it is the UFC looking for other fights for Alex when other challengers with the same resume the UFC would say "let's wait an extra month and make this happen".

Well per Ariel Alex vs Magomed is confirmed. Thanks thread starter for pressuring the fight into existence and making me look like a dumbass in the process ha.

Alright, Sherbums, let’s address the elephant in the room: there are rumors swirling about Alex Pereira potentially fighting Alexander Volkov instead of Magomed Ankalaev. At what point do we all just admit that the UFC is actively protecting Pereira from Ankalaev?

Look, Pereira is a phenomenal striker—no one denies that—but Ankalaev is the worst matchup for him stylistically. Ankalaev has the wrestling, grappling, and striking IQ to completely neutralize Pereira’s power. It’s no secret that many fans (and maybe the UFC brass) are worried about how Alex would hold up against him. So instead, we’re getting talk of Pereira moving up to fight Volkov at heavyweight? A fight that, while interesting, feels like a diversion.

How long is this going to go on? Ankalaev deserves the next shot after his dominant win over Johnny Walker and the controversial draw with Jan Blachowicz. Meanwhile, Alex is already a champ and should be defending his belt against the rightful contender. Is this a case of the UFC protecting one of their most marketable fighters, or do they genuinely believe in Pereira’s ability to jump divisions?

What do you think, Sherbums? Is the UFC running interference to keep Ankalaev away from Pereira? And if Pereira moves up to fight Volkov, is that proof of ducking or just good business? Let’s hear it!
Ank has been offered the fight and said no. He could have fought at any point last year, but seems to only want the fight if he gets a full camp.

WHilst they shouldn't be booking fights in Ramadan for him, it's one f'ing month of the year. They just fought 1 week apart (with Alex fighting earlier). If Ank wanted that fight and was willing to get off the Abu Dhabi card, he would have gotten it.

Ank is inactive, difficult to deal with and has shit the bed vs Jan and Walker in recent years. Ank should have been fighting more often last year. He would have fallen into a title match if he was active and stayed ready.
2025, he needs to do this or he will get booked over again.

Alex isn't ducking him, he just isn't catering to Ank who fights 2x a year and only when it suits him perfectly.

Sources???

Sources???
Sources? The guy has been offered the fight. He only fought in Jan of last year and was free all year before his last fight. Alex fought a week before him on a PPV.

All Ank had to do is be ready to go and willing to fight at any point. He sat on the sidelines going 1-1-1 in his previous 3.
He finally fights again and is back in the picture. Why does a champion have to change his schedule to suit a guy who never fights?

ALex isn't ducking him, Ank just won't fight unless he gets a 12 month camp to fight where he wants. Alex isn't the issue, he clearly will fight whoever, whenever and wherever.
His break after being so active last year, is shorter than Ank's.

Anklebiter just ain't that exciting, he has a lot of decisions and the Jan fight sucked ass. Alex has way more opportunities to fight, make money & push the UFC to another level.

How about Alex refusing to fight him just once?

I think once Alex turns down the fight we ca talk but only magomed anakalev turns down the fight.

What would it take for you think that magomed is hoping alex loses to someone else? maybe he should turn down the fight a 3rd time?

So no sources. Just kinda making stuff up

Since I've been following this same story. Ankalaev has said many times that he was not offered the fight at 307

They're actually protecting Ankalaev from Perreira. That's what they're doing with all those muslim "prospects".

I guess first, I'd have to care. Still waiting for that to happen

Not really, Poatan can go HW and that will fun for the fans to see

UFC 300 he was offered the fight and said no. It's not Alex's fault he is religious. It's just intermittent fasting and a water fast.
r/MMA - Magomed Ankalaev calls out Alex Pereira to a fight in Abu Dhabi, says he has no chin

That's his big call out post going 1-1 with Walker. A call to fight at the end of the year in Abu dhabi...
Alex then went on to defend multiple times whilst Ank sat on the sidelines twiddling his thumbs just to have the advantage.

One guy is fighting 4 times in 18 months against ex champions. The other sat out most of the year and has a draw against the only ex champ he fought.
If Ank said anytime, anyplace AND actually meant it, he would have been in there.

I must be missing something with Ankalaev. Hes just a decent top 5. Good kickboxing, above average grappling in a division where its none existent, below average by MMA standards.
He isn't better than Jiri.
