I may have to rewatch the fight. If I recall, Steve was constantly moving and the second the ref stopped it. He protested it with his body language.

Lots of fighters protest after being on the wrong end of a stoppage, but it doesn't mean they're right. Michal protested the stoppage involving his arm being dislocated by Holland. Tafa on the same card protested the stoppage after he got subbed by a leg-lock. I want to say it was Moicano who protested his stoppage after getting put down by Fiziev; dude stood back up and started arguing on instinct only to start teetering around like a drunkard and showing off how badly compromised he was even long after the fight was called.

I agree. Erceg seems like a good dude but he has one KO in the UFC, and it’s against a guy who is rather easy to knockout (schnell).

Typically I err on the side of a late stoppage instead of an early one. Early stoppages are ruining UFC.

And if anything I err on the early stoppage. Yes I get annoyed by seeing my picks or my favorite fighters' careers be derailed by an early stoppage... but if I have to choose between that and seeing someone lose years off their career and/or their life sustaining damage that doesn't need to happen, I know what I'm choosing.

To each their own. I respect where you're coming from. I'm just thankful for fights like Barry vs Kongo, Edgar vs Maynard, and Elkins vs Bektic etc.

If those fights were stopped early, the results would never exist. I don't want to live in a world like that.

I don't deny that there have been some fights with great comebacks where fighters came back from tough spots where other refs may have stopped it... but if we're playing the alternate universe game, I don't want to live in a world where my favorite fighters when losing a fight are allowed to "be a warrior" and get pounded out for a few more seconds before the fight is called and thus have their careers shortened as a result in the hopes they get to replicate the feats of those men you listed. It's not a trade I'm willing to make.

But to each their own, it is what it is and I respect your perspective. I understand it comes from a fan of the sport.
