People still remember Sugar Ray Leonard avoiding a fight with Marvin Hagler. It won’t have any effect. People won’t remember a rather insignificant circumstance like this. Jon Jones’ MMA record, though, won’t be erased, neither from people’s memories, nor from the MMA history books.
Every MMA goat could always have fought the next guy, then the next guy…there’s a constant flow of new blood in this sport, and a career in MMA can only last so long.
Having known when to stop at the right time is a very overlooked yet key part of being in the GOAT discussion.
I really like Aspinall, but in all due respect, we already know, given the few blemishes he already has on his record, that he’ll never reach the kind of legendary status that Jones has.
10-15 years from now, this will all be entirely forgotten.

both, actually. SRL was viewed as ducking Hagler for several years until they finally fought. its rumored that SRL saw something in Hagler's fight vs John Mugabi and felt that he could finally beat him.A rematch? Or just that he made Hagler wait so long for the first one?
I agree with your take but hitting anyone in a vehicle collision and not making sure that they are ok afterwards and making sure they get to a hospital if they need to. Speaks for itself. Anyone who thinks I'm incorrect I would never want to be associated with. There's a ton of people who don't think less of his career after all the positive tests and everything he's done outside of the cage. Those people won't be moved either way. The haters will still hate as well.

Jones’ name will be remembered for sure, but I don’t believe Aspinall’s will be.What effect will the Aspinall duck have on JBJ's legacy?
MMA is a fringe sport that almost nobody cares about. In 20 years, Down-Low Jonny will be a distant memory for a few people. There is no legacy on the line, just UFC-nerds arguing over trivia.
GSP knew about his health issues when he still went and fought Bisping despite his contract explicitly saying he needed to defend against Whittaker if he won.GSP vacated the belt immediately after less than two weeks due to health issues, Jon held up a division for two years and counting due to ego issues.
GSP knew about his health issues when he still went and fought Bisping despite his contract explicitly saying he needed to defend against Whittaker if he won.
So yeah, it's actually far worse than Jon fighting the guy he said he would.
Once again for the retard in the back:GSP couldn't keep on the MW weight without ruining his health and body. If you know how hard it is to continue bulking/maintaining size as an ectomorph, you'd understand why he didn't want to keep doing it afterwards. He made the smart choice.
Only one fighter held the belt hostage. Fighting a 40yr old Stipe who hasnt fought in years since getting KTFO is akin to elder abuse.
GSP chased legacy with honor. Jon Jones is a man child.
Once again for the retard in the back:
GSP despite his “health issues” still fought Bisping even though his contract demanded he fight Whittaker if he beat Bisping. It was “severe” enough to not fight Whittaker but not for Bisping after he already accomplished his goal all along of being dual weight champ.
This is far, far, far worse than Jon fighting Stipe simply as he said he would. GSP broke a promise while Jon kept one.
Buddy I want you to re-read what you wrote and see where you fucked up.When was GSP diagnosed with ulcerative colitis?
"Started experiencing symptoms during his last training camp and that the condition, along with the stress of fighting, led to his decision to retire."
Seems pretty reasonable to me.
Heres a simple question for the retard in the back.
Who held a belt hostage?
Or
Who wanted FU money for a fight against Francis? Who then fought Gane for his usual purse. Who wanted FU money for a fight against Aspinall? Who then fought Stipe for his usual purse. Who wanted a fight against Pereira for his usual purse.
Why did Jon suddenly want 30mil against Francis and Aspinall? But he was okay to fight 3 other times at HW against other opponents?
Sounds like a pussy to me. Your hero.
Buddy I want you to re-read what you wrote and see where you fucked up.
GSP's "health" issue wasn't severe enough NOT to fight Bisping and win his dual belt for his legacy but suddenly was enough to not defend against Whittaker like he'd literally already agreed he must do if he fought Bisping.
This is significantly worse, and in fact the complete opposite, of Jones saying he'll defend against Stipe... and then defending against Stipe.
Tabarnac.
