Just finished Like a Dragon Garden: The Man Who Erased His Name.
It took about twenty five hours I think?
The main story isn't very long, but there is plenty of side content. I also appreciate the gaps in the story, making going out and exploring the town feeling more natural, so I finished all of the side content before the main story. Side missions are decent and well implemented, as having them picked up at a specific point makes them easy to find.
The story verges from frustration, to a thrilling climax and an incredibly sad ending. The characters are top end, memorable and likeable and unlikeable, but never boring. The end boss is right up there with being the series best. Kiryu continues to be the GOAT main character for me.
I miss Outrun, but a lot of the classic mini-games are back. Sotenbori is a small map, but there is a lot to do. The "Castle" is a nice little new thing, and a decent way to make money.
I've always preferred Kiryus more brutish style over Yagamis slickness, and prefer them both over Ichibans RPG combat. Agent serves well initially, but classic is king once everything is maxed. There are also more enemies in fights in this game and they're a bit more aggressive, though I found it to be more fun as Kiryu becomes beastly fast. Also, levelling up is easy, as money is easy to find.
The game looks and runs solidly, though I think that it doesn't look better than Like a Dragon or the Judgments? Either way, it isn't really an issue. Sound is good as well. It's all polished and neat, no technical issues whatsoever.
There is a lot of fan service and throwbacks to the past in this game so I wouldn't recommend it to anyone starting out with the series. If you have played the previous games however, it's well worth a buy.
Overall? I really enjoyed this and I consider it to be right up there as one of the best in the series. Though I love the Yakuza series, I have plateaued at certain times in 4, 5 and even 6. I didn't have that issue at all in this.
There is also a demo of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth attached to the game. I won't be playing it, or watching any clips online. I'll be playing it as soon as it is launched.
