Dead Space
The remake. Gonna be a bit unpopular here, but I don't like it all that much. Is it just me, or are modern games really messing up the color pallets with their advanced graphics that seem to focus more on realism than anything else? I don't remember having to squint to see shit in the original. This game is too damn dark, and nothing pops. Even after I turned up the brightness, it's still too damn dark, and I have damn good eyesight, so it's not a case of me getting older. I get that the flashlight is supposed to be your lifeline for visuals, but I don't like it. I want to actually see the environment, and the key items within that environment. I only played it for a little bit, and I've skipped over so many items, that I didn't initially see.
On top of that, I don't remember the original being this cheap, with constant enemy spawns behind you. It's so predictable. Long corridor, two or three vents, enemy spawns in front of you, you take care of it, and then the inevitable sneak attack from behind gets you, and then you turn around and deal with them. Over and over again. It's not scary. It's annoying. They also seemed to beef the enemies up, where anything but a limb shot, actually does anything to them, and they all hit like trucks. A swipe here and there, and you're dead on "normal" difficulty. It doesn't ease you in at all, which is somewhat understandable given that it's a remake, but I think they cheap'd out on the design, and just made the spawn points annoying as fuck.
I just played DS2 not too long ago, and it was great from beginning to end. This game just irritated the fuck out of me in its first couple of hours, and hit all my "survival horror" gripes, mainly due to the ridiculously dark environments and cheesy bullshit, that I do not remember being an issue with the original.
The graphics are nice(when you can actually see them), but that's about it. It's still "Dead Space", but in all honesty, I'd rather play the original. This one is just...I don't know. It didn't click.
