So for the past few days I’ve been playing the Arcane Dimensions mod for Quake 1 and I have been loving it. I had first heard of this mod a few years ago when I watched a video review of it from Gmanlives. The most interesting thing about this mod is the size and complexity of the maps. Anyone that’s played through Quake 1 knows that its maps are typically fairly small, and generally only take 5 to 20 minutes to play with anywhere from say 30 to 80 enemies to fight per level. But the maps in Arcane Dimensions are huge, taking 45 minutes to an hour to play and with some maps having in excess of 400 enemies if you can believe. Aesthetically the maps are gorgeous too, like nothing you’d ever see in the base game.

Would highly recommend to any fan of old school fps games and it would be an absolute no brainer to any fans of Quake 1.

Forza Motorsport

Looks great, plays fine, though I'm bad at games like these due to being overly aggressive on corners.

One thing that is really bothering me though, is the risk/reward on picking your starting place. Is there anyway to have the game pick the place for you based on your practice laps?

It sounds stupid, but I'll probably uninstall is I can't.

About to start Redemption Reapers

A bit of a JRPG / Tactical RPG deep cut. As opposed to the anime aesthetic of a lot of JRPG/Tactical RPG's, this one's is pretty grim.

Still playing Redemption Reapers. Apparently it's a love it or hate it, hence the average reviews. But it fluctuates between people rating it 0/10 and 10/10.

Some gameplay mechanics are questionable (to get loot, you gotta replay each level at least once - most of the times), but the enemies are so unforgiving to bad positioning and the animations / aesthetic is badass as fuck, I don't mind the grind.

Story is pretty good as well. There's an abundance of cutscenes and it's making me more involved in the story.

In addition to RR, I am playing:

Naraka Bladepoint (p4p Battle Royale GOAT)

Dark Souls 3 - I finished Sekiro thrice, Dark Souls one time, a ton of soulslikes such as Thymesia, tried to get into DS 2 but just couldn't, so I skipped straight to DS3. Next on the hitlist: Elden Ring

Uninstalled Forza Motorsport

Overtaking pisses me off. I had to stay in sixth, behind a car that was noticeably slower than I, because it kept hogging the lines.

Diablo 3

I guess I wasn't that hardcore, when I tried the "Crusader" class way back. I remember liking it quite a bit. I tried it for the new season, and gave up after level 47. The class sucks, but I'm figuring it's more of a "support" class for MP. Didn't even get to the "Torment" levels. It wasn't hard, but it took literal minutes to get rid of some elites, and I didn't have the patience to wait for the loot drops to buff the powers. It made the game boring. Started up a "Demon Hunter" class, and now it's back to being the D3 game I love.

Just beat Elden Ring twice and am still messing with it, but also just started Callisto Protocol. I'm also almost done with Mario + Rabbids 2
In case you're interested Callisto Protocol had a pretty awesome audio storybook pre-launch featuring Michael Ironside that got me super excited to play. It's meant to be listened to before you play so there are no spoilers. It's really well done and I wish more games did shit like this. 8 episodes.

Thanks mate -- good looking out

Haven't had any time to play this week so I'm still on the second Black Rabbit Brotherhood fight in Lies of P. Hopefully tonight I'll get through them. Trying to finish this before I start Lords of the Fallen. I also bought Phantom Liberty. I may try that and hold off on LOTF. I don't know. Too much good stuff right now.

So I've sunk quite a bit of time as of late into Horizon: Zero Dawn Complete Edition. Another game I got on sale that I thought I would get good value out of. It is definitely critically acclaimed, and while I'm enjoying it for the most part, I am not overly enthusiastic about it. I think I'm more than halfway there based on amount of skills I've been able to unlock.

Pros:
+ runs great, excellent graphics, no bugs
+ game's biggest plus is the complexity of the enemies with knocking off pieces of armor, and at times, weapons
+ beautiful mix of landscapes
+ some really fun innovative weapons
+ character upgrades feel pretty meaningful
+ cool boss battles I've found so far, and even some common enemies feel boss-ish
+ level design is pretty cool for some of the more complex side missions, as well as the main missions

Cons:
- similar to Assassin's Creed, tough to give a crap about any of the characters. Too many characters come and go. The side quests, while having variety in terms of techniques and events to complete, largely involve characters you don't care about. And side quests are numerous, so the main quest looses continuity. I feel when it comes to big open world games, Witcher 3 is miles ahead in regards to avoiding this common pitfall
- Biggest gripe --> combat deaths often feel cheap. Kind of like "I can't tell what the hell is going on" kind of deaths more so than anything. Could be because controls are clunky with keyboard/mouse instead of gamepad, but I feel compelled to play KB/M for accuracy of arrows using the mouse
- excessive crafting, so much time spent foraging and crafting. Would prefer it if items and medicine collected was twice the quantity per item picked up
- even with upgraded weapons, feel underpowered and not the least bit a bad ass I want to be at times. The sling bombs would be cool if their power was dialed up a lot. Same with setting traps.
- I am in general not a fan of fighting robots, I like fighting things that bleed. The human enemies in the game are bland, and also stupid over power with like 2 hit kills despite looking super frail
- related to the point above, melee combat is not tight at all and best avoided as much as possible
- collectibles items are very numerously excessive, with long winded stories to read. It's just not interesting enough to get into

I know this game got rave reviews in the 9/10 range, but to me it's more a 7 out of 10. Maybe even a 6.5. I think there's potential my rating goes up by the time all is said and done, especially if I find a way to upgrade the spear.

I finished off this game including the Frozen Wild DLC. Did find the way to upgrade spear as that was part of the DLC.

Anyhow, main game final mission was great, the DLC final boss was a royal pain in the arse 'til I found out the secret to beat it. I'd maybe upgrade my score to a 7.25 or so. The game has its moments and the whole concept of blasting off armor to make enemies vulnerable is fun -- really fun, but at the end of the day, too much crafting, too many of the weapons feel useless, to many of my deaths felt too cheap.

I'm slowly getting into Starfield. It isn't engaging story/writing wise but I have gotten into the gameplay loop of clearing up quests and looting, and now that I have a bunch of money, an upgraded ship (And I found a new ship last night) and some satisfying weapons I'm having a good time. Playing it the same way as I did Skyrim just hopping from dungeon to dungeon hoovering up stuff to sell. Admittedly I threw in a mod that gives merchants unlimited money so they can keep up. I have an AA-99 that melts through everyone, but my favourite gun is the 'Hunting Rifle' because I got a fetish for Russian guns and I was pretty pumped to see a VSS in the game. I see there are already a bunch of gun mods so if someone adds an AN-94 I will send dick pics

Everspace 2 really has its hooks into me now. I pirated it around the time Starfield came out, as I liked the demo, and wanted a bit more time with it. Starfield came out shortly after, and that game took over.

If any of you are fans of Freelancer, and liked the movement of Descent, then this is the game for you. Unlike the first game, which was rogue like, this is an open world RPG, with a big single player campaign and tons of side quests. The story is decent so far, but it's the Diablo-like looting/upgrades, coupled with the tight gameplay, that makes it special/super addictive.

I finally had my fill of Starfield, put about 260 hours into it, love it. I'm sure I'll go back in and grind a bit for credits to help with my next ship build, but I've done all the quests I want to do until some DLC, impactful mods, or outpost improvements come out. I really want to build more ships, but there's just nothing to explore in them.

Everspace 2 is really filling that craving. I liked it so much that I bought it to support the devs. I highly recommend it if you like this type of game.

^^^ is it even online? Sorry , I'm sure there is a thread on this somewhere. Just not on pc at the moment.

Playing a couple tense survival horror games for October. Dead Space remake which I held off to get on sale because I replayed the original last October. And Amnesia: The Bunker which is by far the best Amnesia game yet. Playing through both on hard and holy Hell do they nail that bhole puckering tension. Both are awesome.

Took a break from the unyielding brutality of the three aforementioned games, and finished Guardians of the Galaxy in a couple of days.

That shit was so much fun, and seems to have been developed by GotG genuine fans. I only know GotG through the Marvel movies, and the game does a far greater job fleshing out characters like Drax. Also Cosmo is fucking awesome.
