#1 Volk vs #3 Lopes, two highest ranked guys fighting for the title. Volk being the long dominant champ vs Lopes who's been the best performing FW the last 2 years.

Lopes: 5-1, loss to Evloev

He really isn't. If you said Evloev vs Lopes, then maybe you have a point. But Lopes deserves the fight more. Higher ranked, more active and better wins. Since they fought in 2023, Lopes is 5-0 with the highest ranked win among them, while Evloev is 2-0.

So nothing Evloev did before their fight matters?

The question is not how much Lopes is good but if Volk's chin is gone after 2 KOs.
Volk never had a granite chin (even Holloway rocked him in their second fight) but after 2 bad KOs is a high risk that is chin is like glass.
If it's so first time Lopes find the right punch and we will have a new champ...

What about Mokaev? They are putting on fights with regional level fighters weekly and they don't want him. There is a long line to get to Dana White.

Evloev hatred is really blown out of proportion, 2 fights per year is not particularly innactive and he isn't even that boring, his last 3 fights against Sterling, Allen and Lopes were all rather fun.

Evloev is undefeated, 9-0 in the UFC, has a win over the most recent challenger (Lopes).

I know!! let's give him a debuting fighter that wasn't even a champion of his former organization.

Plus, I think Pico may be the worst possible matchup for Evloev.
They REALLY wanted that mf out of the title picture.
Thank God Volk is at least advocating for him, since the UFC isn't.
