Warhammer 40k

That does seem a little too simple for me personally, I'd be inclined to come up with house rules were different parts of the model had their own stats.

So say you needed an ultra heavy weapon to have any chance of actually killing it by taking out the head/body/legs but somewhat lighter weapons could degrade its weapons individually.
40k, as a system, isn't really built to handle stuff like that. It could be added, certainly, but that introduces other issues. Like, how far down the scale do you add the new rules? Is it just titans? What about other super heavies like baneblades or knights? Or big tanks like landraiders? Or regular tanks? Or battlesuits? Can you destroy a bike? You're adding realism but you're also slowing down the game, potentially by a significant margin. And titans are only being brought in huge games to begin with which are already ponderous affairs. Do you really want to add time to a 4+ hour game?

I think what it really comes down to is that 40k scale games just don't work with big stuff. GW tried fixing that with their new edition of Apocalypse, but I'm pretty sure that attempted tanked and never found a player base.

I was more of a fantasy/epic player back in the day but I believe it used to be all tanks in 40K had charts with different toughness and damage rolls although they didnt ever get up to superheavy size, Land Raiders and Russes were pretty much the biggest things you could get.

What it would come down to for me I spose is what makes the game more interesting? with armies including superheavy tanks or knights you are still going to have a lot of different models to aim at were as a Warlord Titan is going to be pretty dominant I'd imagine unless its a massive game. Giving the other player a choice of what he's going to aim at, whether he's going to go for the kill or try and degrade/destory a specific weapon seems like it would be more fun than just shooting at something with 150 wounds or whatever.

I mean with Epic back in the day and something like the Emperor Titan would eat up so many points if you were facing it you could basically look to win more via CP's, exploit the opponents relative lack of troops and maybe look to damage the Titans main weapons rather than kill it. I'd imagine that actually being more fun with a Warlord in 40K, rather than just slugging out out with another Titan or heavy tanks/knights/etc more about smaller forces trying to get Objectives/CP's and chip away at its weaker parts.

New preview day [LINK]. Some cool stuff. Vampire Counts are back under a different, more trademarkable, name: Soulblight Gravelords.

Sisters also get their own Predator Tank. Lots of extraneous bullshit but it has a new, more modern style, turret that I like.

"I must warn you, some of my Golden Demon winners are over ten years old. It will be really embarrasing to take a look at them after all this time".

Those Bloodknights and Fell Bats are gorgeous

Well hello there.

EDIT: adding pictures with everything all together. Didn't want to do a new post, the thread is at risk of turning into my own personal blog.

Can I get some opinions? I did a flame test for my Warlord and want to know what people think. I took a stock image and turned it into a 3D printed stencil which I tested out on a piece of platicard.

I'd like to know which version(s) people like the most. Please excuse the messy painting on the outlines, I wasn't used to the brush yet (hence why it gets better as you go from left to right). So, the colors are:
Raw
Dark red
Orange
Blue
Lime
Amethyst
Raw again

Here is my opinion:
Raw - I like this one. I think it turned out fine without any outlining. I was thinking there would be more under-spray of the stencil but it worked out nicely. Unfortunately I don't know if that'll be true when I try and put the stencil against an actual part instead of a nice flat surface.
Dark red - Eh, not really a fan. It's too dark for the light parts of the flame.
Orange - Worst of the bunch. Adds nothing to the lower flame area and makes the tips look like shit.
Blue - This was the lightest blue I had on hand and would have preferred to try something lighter. As is it looks too much like I was trying to do a touch-up rather than an outline.
Lime - Got this one from a hotrod, and it's a bit too much hotrod. Doesn't look bad by itself but it doesn't fit the style I'm looking for.
Amethyst - This was another hotrod inspiration, but I like this one. It's almost unnoticeable from a distance but adds this interesting pop when you get up on it.

For me it comes down to Raw vs Amethyst. I think I'm leaning Raw, but add Amethyst if I get too much underspray when I do it on the real part.

My picks were Raw and Amethyst before reading your spoiler.

Lucius done. Looks like shit and I hate it. (← that's not sarcasm)

Almost the entire thing is eyeballed from photo reference (unlike the legs or weapons there is precious little shared between Mars/Lucius for the body or head) and it created many compounding errors that are essentially impossible to fix without starting again from scratch. And after 20+ hrs that's just not happening. So it is what it is and I need to learn to live with it.

There has to be files online
There are, but most of them suck and even the better ones have some obvious errors. My Mars version has turned out really damn good, and my Lucius (despite my disappointment with how it turned out) is still the most accurate of any of the ones I've seen.

And this isn't just so I can print one up, it's a learning project. I've been a hobbyist modeller for ~20 years and I've decided I want to buckle down and learn it to a more professional level. For example, I did my best to do the primary surfaces of the Mars version to "Class A Surfacing" standards: the armor panels are built using single-span surfaces and have continuity to within 0.2 degree tangency and 5% curvature. That's the standard that actual professionals use when designing cars and such.

EDIT: Anyways, here's both versions together, fully assembled.

We've seen some (all?) of these before, but I think the group shot is new. These new Vamps are down-right restrained. Is GW feeling all right? Putting out mini's not positively festooned in gribblies? I like the lot of them, but considering the likely price (~$25 a pop, maybe $60 if it's a set) I doubt they'll make their way into my collection. EDIT: Oh, shit, it's an Underworlds band, so it'll be like $40. I think might actually get them at that price even though I don't play Underworlds.

EDIT: Jesus, the new SoB model is garbage. How did this make it out the door?

Ongoing project: Super early stages, but endgoal is a pretty massive Kharadron Overlords-esque flying warmachine (and lots of smaller variants as well why not?).
GW seems to have balloons staked pretty clearly as their territory, but propeller planes and helicopters ought to be fair game.

Warlord Update

What it looked like last time you saw it:

What it looks like now:

A couple touchups, a couple small bits, the base, maybe some decals and some banners, and it'll be done. I'd say I'm 95% completed at this point.
