Opinion War Room Government Shutdown over/under predictions

SNAP benefits expire on November 1.

Will the democrats open up the government or try to blame Republicans for this?

42 million people depend on it. Not having enough food on the table is a big deal.

The GOP passed the LARGEST cuts to SNAP benefits ever and now they're keeping the government shut to deny millions of Americans healthcare support.

We have a car with a Republican driver, a Republican engine, and a Republican filled gas tank. But it's the Democrat locked inside the trunk that's stopping the car.

"But it's not a cult..."

The Republicans are clearly to blame for this. What are you smoking and where can I get some?

Cheeze Wizz. I get it at the dispensary.

How are the Republicans at fault for this?

  • Speculative and racist math of course ;) -- ( PEW )
  • County data shows that something like 75% of US counties with increasing SNAP participation from 2010 to 2022 voted for Donald Trump in 2020 -- ( LINK )
  • Trends and general -- which is why I tagged it SPECULATIVE. I don't know, but I don't think my numbers are grossly misrepresenting the narrative.
  • Kids are counted as individuals in the program -- and yup, I lumped them in with their parent/guardian in the "calcutations" -- if using 2/3 democrap and 1/3 resucklican is easier numbers to appease the speculation, then whatever.
  • I'm not sure if it would be good to raise or lower the speculative numbers or what side or groups would want more or less represented? I mean it's 41,000,000 AMERICANS (in theory lol)

Yup, 100% agree especially with retirement age folks literally not having reliable means of support... but as I'm typing this out, literally ; tiktok and social media is getting lit up with people (clearly) bitching about getting cut off (of SNAP) -- and rather than spending any time advocating for amicable resolutions to the shutdown, they are IMMEDIATELY........

... saying outright "I am going to rob walmart" -- "dont get in my way" -- "you will get hurt" -- "Im leaving with my 2 carts" -- which also suggests to me, that some of these lunatics might be "able bodied" and should be working, rather than sucking the gov't tit. (Per the silly (R) request lol)

Meanwhile I'm lookin' at friday, with the food shelter, and other services -- trying to backup in case of a failure risk when people come crashing in (our sign up sheet just literally filled for 2+ weeks out, all days all time slots) -- which is great, but man-o-man, even some of them don't say "thank you" and are entitled as well -- having to "lower" themselves to go and do such a thing... I guess the point is, some are entitled and geting SNAP that probably SHOULDN'T and that's what (Rtards) are so adamant about -- does it disrupt shit to request able bodied work if possible?

Which is kinda why politics be damned with me, just tryna point out that 41mil people (in general) are now bargaining chips -- and yes, dems probably have a lot more to lose the longer this shutdown shit goes on.... but both sides are now faced with the reality -- and handling the resolution without looting and violence is already threatened before anything has actually happened.....

... cause right now I'm seeing a "HOLY FUCK THEY CANT CUT ME OFF" response, with LITERAL threats of violence and theft recorded and uploaded all day
If you back down to bullies (the Trumplicans), they will always comeback for more. It would be extremely foolish in the long term for the Democrats to give in rather than force Republicans to come to the negotiating table. I feel sorry for the innocents who didn't enable this shit pile of an administration by voting for it, but things will be far worse if the Dems demonstrate that the will cave to this fucked up blame game.

I fixed it for you. This is another 80/20 or 67/33 issue. Like I said, the democrats are going to blame the Republicans for this. Booker already got the ball rolling.

Hopefully, funding for SNAP will become available with a vote in Congress. Just like what happened when funding for federal law enforcement and the military was denied by most democrats.

Is that a serious question?

Do you have any understanding of how minority governments work in other countries that don't have your fucked up 2-party system? This situation is similar (though only in certain ways) in that when the sitting government doesn't have the votes to pass any given piece of legislation, the onus is on them to negotiate with the opposition or scrap it altogether. In any other relatively normal country, refusing to negotiate would result in a vote of no-confidence and trigger an election immediately. Instead, the American solution is to shut everything down entirely and idiotically turn the running of the nation into a game of cat and mouse.

Trump is said by his worshippers to have won a sweeping victory, remember? How does that jive with the idea that anyone but the Trumplicans have any control over the governance of the nation?

You seem to be oblivious to the 60 vote requirement in the Senate to open the government.

Without Democrat votes, the government will remain closed. You know that, right?

Both parties share blame -- (R) for weaponizing it and playing their shitty "hardball" -- and (D) for digging in -- and "sheer fucking hubris" (thanks critical drinker, always stuck in my head)

I don't even think the shutdown is about principle anymore -- it’s about power -- and the public pays while both sides play a fucking posture / save face game.

I just want an amicable solution that works "for the people" -- I was helping a bit at the food bank yesterday, and we were already issuing warnings about shortcomings and reducing what can be distributed with the new timeframe (quantity wise and how many slots per day) -- the amount of stress is palpable... so something has to give.

Super interesting fun fact -- Bezos or Zuckerberg could fully fund SNAP for 2 year and still have $35-50 billion dollars to play with leftover...

You know what I said about the sitting government not having enough votes is true, right?

Here it is again for reference.

Your post is equivalent to: "Logic? What in the actual fuck is that?"

Be honest with me; are you trolling?

<TrumpWrong1>

It's about the consequences of backing down to cowardly unpatriotic bullies.
