Rumored UFC wants to make Charles Oliveira vs Mateusz Gamrot; dispute over whether it should be 3 or 5 round fight

Woah, woah, woah. He had nothing for Arman? Wasn't he the only one of the two who threatened with grappling? with the guillotine especially. Arman did good staying tight, chest to chest in charles' guard, but never threatened much with the grappling outside of some gnp.

I have no doubt gamrot can get anyone down to be honest -- his takedowns are spectacular-- He just doesn't tend to really be able to hold them down.

I meant getting back to his feet. Olivera had close submissions, but strictly talking about wrestling.
Gamrot couldn't hold down Arman for too long but I'm wondering if it would be different for Olivera. To me it comes down to whether you think he'll land the submission or not.

Sure Oliveira arguably under-performed in certain aspects against Arman, but Arman is really good in some areas where Gamrot simply isn't and Charles still made that fight razor-thin. Conversely, Gamrot's two most comparable fights to this one where he fought BJJ guys are:

• Him getting utterly outclassed by Dariush for the better part of 15 minutes, being totally incapable of controlling him on the ground. This is particularly notable because up to this point Dariush hadn't really been known for his bottom game & defensive scrambles (whereas Charles -- who showed off an elite guard against Dariush in turn -- very much is known for those things).
• Him going life-and-death with Old Man RDA coming back to 155 for one last hurrah, getting badly hurt multiple times and narrowly scraping out a win with his wrestling (something RDA has always been vulnerable to).

Hell, even against CDF he didn't look all that great considering the circumstances... but I'll give him a pass there since Ferreira is apparently a hard counter to wrestlers, lol.

Oliveira has had some performances which have given me pause to reevaluate his skill set in the past, but I think this is a decent match-up for him. I like Gamrot a lot, but while he's improved his boxing with time he's still a fairly basic (and at times downright deficient) striker. I really hate his lack of top game for a primary wrestler. I haven't seen any sort of that he'll be able to get Oliveira's respect on the feet or with his wrestling and I suspect the Brazilian to copy a lot of Benny's homework. Maybe we see another performance where Do Bronx is too complacent getting held against the cage or laying on his back near the side of the Octagon with no room to play guard while not throwing enough output on the feet and ends up letting another Decision slip through his fingers... but I don't really see it. I think Charles hurts Gamrot standing a time or two and also puts him in submission danger whenever he shoots; Mateusz probably survives to the bell though. Dude's tough as hell.

I've picked against Charles before he even was a LW champion, maybe the exception being the Gaethje fight, but I actually think he can win this one.

For high level fighters, 3 rounds isn't always enough to decisively show who's better. We just saw this in Tsarukyan vs Oliveira, it's totally possible that an amazing sub or knockout might've happened in the championship rounds, but we just didn't get to see them because they booked the fight as a 3-rounder

Oliveira should avoid this fight. I think another loss is in the cards if he takes this. He does not do well against wrestlers.

There are levels to MMA. Charles is one of the best LW's of all time, easily top 5. Gamrot is just a solid top ten guy. I think it's a good fight to make, but this idea that out of all the LWs in the world, Charles is going to be afraid of Gamrot is laughable.

Oliveira has fought pretty much everyone, Gamrot isn't showing him anything he's never seen before.

I dunno, Olivera clearly has problems with guys that take him down that are hard to submit or don't gas. Asking for a 3 round main event if they are the top fight shows he's not too confident that it will be an easy match. We'll see. I favor Olivera over most if their main base isn't wrestling.

Why not? They just did strickland vs costa 5 rounds. that was the most recent ppv. I could name a bunch of times they absolutely can do it, charles just really really doesn't want.
